Hi,
I felt compelled to join this forum and post because we have had such a terrible experience.
We had been paying British Gas for 2 years for our gas and electricity. Recently, we were contacted by EDF, who said they owed us for two years of gas and electricity - a lot of money.
*When we moved into our flat, we agreed a contract with British Gas for the supply*
On speaking to British Gas, they told us that they supplied the Gas and Electricity. After weeks of stressful phone calls between the parties and court threats from EDF, it seems like a representative (possibly from one of these firms) has 'crossed the meters' in our flats.
Due to the error from one of these companies, the gas was actually coming from EDF, but billed by British Gas. We were billed for approx £1500. British Gas refunded the cash we had paid to them, which we transferred to EDF - however, we did not sign a contract with EDF, and ended up having to pay approx £700 extra to EDF.
I'll be clear here - I'm happy to pay for any gas we have used, but many gas rates can be fixed through contract, and I think we have been hit with punitive rates because of a mix up between the companies. Fundamentally, I don't feel I should pay excess charges for something I haven't signed for.
Any advice would be appreciated!
