I bought a new flat with an electric boiler / central heating system but have kept the same tarriff of Economy 7 with Heatwise Plan. Unfortunately this plan does not even exist on price comparison sites so I am unsure whether I should be switching or not. My bills have definitely gone up but who´s haven´t? Does anyone know the specifics about this price plan and on ground of which parameters I know whether it is a good tariff for me? For about 4 years with E.ON we have been paying a monthly direct debit of £21 a month for my gas supply to E.ON and more often than not have been in credit with them. Then, to my surprise - I received a letter yesterday informing me that they are going to increase my DD to £75 a month - an almost 4x increase. And all this is on the basis of "what we'll think you use" - how scientific. A bit of background on the house as well - we are two single blokes who work from 8 until 7 and are hardly in the house as it is so wee very rarely use the gas other than an hour of eating in the morning and an hour at night. Plus using the cooker (very rarely)! Any advice on what to do/say/steps moving forward would be much appreciated. Cheers Glenn

Singularly unimpressive service

Having had a contretemps with e-on about a demand for a ridiculous increase in my monthly DD (without achieving any satisfaction) I notified that I was about to switch supplier. I then recd a downright offensively worded response telling me they would not let me switch until I had paid any outstanding balance - despite the fact that they owed me over £100! Needless to say, I used moneysupermarket to identify a sensible switch. Up to now the balance eon holds of my money has not been refunded. At the moment I am receiving £228 a month of Employment Support Allowance which is paid every fortnightly. I am paying EON £56.00 every fortnightly which is £112.00 per month as you can see half of my Income support money is going on Eon I am left with £114.00 pound a month to live on. My Bill for March 2009 was £894.14 by the 10th of June it was down to £558.14. then I receive the new bill for this 19th June 2009 which is £802.55. I then minus the £802.55 from the £558.14= £244.41 from 18th of March to 10th of June 2009 I've paid £336.00 I then minus the difference of £336.00 which I've paid with the difference of £244.41 = £91.59 but Eon still saying I am not paying enough to cover my arrears, i've spoke to them on the phone first the lady couldn't understand why they are saying i am not paying enough then she went and talk to her manager and come back saying I am not even covering my electric usage also they won't give me a breakdown of which part is the arrears and which part is my actualy bill, she then ask me to increase the bill to £142.00 per month to cover some of the arrears this is the third times they've done that and whenever i've increase the payment they keep saying is not enough, but this time I am in trouble if I increase the bill to £142.00 per month I will be left with just £86.00 to live on, I've even reduce to just eating lentil and spinach which cost me £1.00 for three bunches at the market I only live on this as I cannot afford to feed my fifteen years old and myself, I've already told EON I am paying you alrady half of my monthly income and I cannot increase the payment any more but they won't budge, I am in desperate help, is there someone I can get in contact with I am prepare to go to court because I am sure the court would agree with my situation the Eon lady first say they will take me to court when I say to her please do because then I will be free of suffering she kept quiet because i agree with going to court, i suppose she knows she is going to loose this battle. I am prepare to do what it take even going through the human right court because i think the way EON is treating me is unhuman. I would love to email Gordon Brown has anyone done that I would love to have the email address or perhaps I might send him a letter direct to him and showing him what's loke on the otherside. I cannot take anymore of this suffering. Any advance would be much appreciated. I have today received a bill for £1300 from a debt collection agency relating to a property I lived in from 05/2005 to 04/2007 on behalf of e.on. I moved into the property in May 2005 and immediately changed over to a British Gas dual fuel account. I then set up my Direct Debit to them and paid Powergen's closing bill for the Month or so of gas / electricity we used until it officially switched over to BG. I then paid BG for nearly two years before we moved house without any more communication from Powergen. I ported my BG account to the new house where I continued to receive both electricity and gas on a dual fuel account until we moved again. I have called BG and they have no record of me paying Gas at the first property, just a record of electricity and then a record of me paying both electricity and gas at the second property. This is simply not the case I have a clear memory of the conversation I had with BG when I switched to them back in 2005 because of the extra discount offered for dual fuel. I can even remember receiving paper bills for this too. Unfortunately I recently shredded all the bills from this property because they related to charges from over 4 years ago! (Which I now regret). I was told by the 'ug' at the debt collection agency that it is my responsibility to prove otherwise as they will continue to pursue me for the £1300 owed. Surely I can’t be expected to pay this bill from all this time ago, can I? Thanks in advance!

help electric meter still recording when everything turned off at fuse box

ny electric meter still seems to record when all power is off u can hear and see the disc turning is the normal ? does anyone know i have electric through e-on

Price comparison

It seems that the Price Protection plan 17 has been omitted from the input section. I have received a bill from E-On which shows a £436 debit. I pay £59 per month direct debit for a one bed terraced cottage, no central heating, two people both at work for 8+ hours a day etc. I have been consistently in credit for the previous 12 months worth of quarterly bills, and meter readings are provided or taken by the meter reader (ie not estimated). As you can imagine, I was shocked when this bill came through! They have advised that my monthly direct debit needs to rise to £115. I called through, and it would seem that for the previous 7 years (since Sept 2002) the night/day rates for my economy 7 have been recorded around the wrong way. A fault which E-On have admitted was made by their third party suppliers (data collectors), although I have provided some of these readings over the phone to their own customer services staff. They have since cancelled all charges for the previous 7 years and rebilled me at the correct rate. I have seen a number of posts on a similar subject, and I was wondering if anyone can advice whether I have any kind of appeal against this? I am in the process of writing a letter of complaint to E-On, which I intend to send recorded delivery tomorrow. I have read some information with regard to back billing for only 12 months, does anyone know whether this would apply? As the meter readings have always been around the wrong way, I can't see how I would have known this even though there is some onus on me to check these readings myself? Sorry for waffling, but I figure the more information I provide, the more likely someone will be able to help/advise. I contacted southern electric who said it was eon's responsibilty to fix. Eon came out - they advised that the pipe was cut by them for safety reasons and although they would agree to repair it they would not agree incurr the cost of repair. Southern electric also said the same. Now my landlord has agreed to incurr the charges but I am wondering first of all - why should he when it was eon who cut the pipe in the first place!!! Also, EON have asked me to send a detailed application frorm with site plans etc in order for them to generate a quote for the cost of repair (which they caused!!!) Now I am wondeiring how long they are actually going to take to repair such a problem and roughly how much they would charge ??? Alosk, why should my landlord incurr the cost? We are due to open very soon and we can't seem to get any quick answers. The total length of the pipe stretching from my unit to the road is 92m as the pipe has been cut just before the supply fuses box in my unit and also disconected at the road which is adjacent to my site - a total a 92 m. In February 2009 (some 5 months after we had left them) we received a bill for for around £1000 which we deemed too high and did not pay but were then informed we had a loss adjuster dedicated to our file. This person told us of the trouble with our case and explained the catalogue of errors on their part, on the part of our new provider and a neutral 3rd party... anyway, he eventually told me the rules of the Billing Code which I recall to be as follows: e.g. from today, 26/06/09 we can only be billed for the period of today until 22/09/09 (a year to the date we left E-On) and so the nearer to 22/09/09 we get the less we get billed? Can anyone clarify that this is correct as it is my understanding having read the Code myself. If this is the case would you say that £400 is reasonable as a bill to cover this period (3 months) as I feel it is quite high?! We also asked EON to come and check the meter, but there is a hefty fee for getting it checked - if it turns out there is a fault, they will refund the fee, but who's to say that they won't just say no anyway? At the moment I am paying £112.00 electricity per month to EON. I approach EON two years ago offering a payment method where I can clear the debt and still pay my electricity bills fortnightly they wouldn't budge they even refused an Income and Expenditure list showing my money coming in and outgoing, these people just do not care for vulnerable people. For the third three quarters they've keep increasing my fortnightly payment by £9.00 each times saying the increase will clear my electricity debt but every quarter they keep doing the same things, i told them last time when they increase it to £56.00 that i cannot increase my bills anymore but again toady i receive a letter they want to increase to £62.00. I need to get this problem sorted there must be a way I can approach EON to make them listen and accept my offer of paying towards this debt. Ever since then i have rented them out sucessfully on an all bills inclusive basis to foreign students, this has worked out well. However since purchase i have been trying to get E-on to bill me for the electric used, despite my best efforts i recieved my first bill for one 30th May 2008 and the other August 2008. I have queried these bills as there are some inconsistencies in readings etc. I have just read the energy retial associations code of practice that E-on are meant to adhere to that says that if you are not billed for a certain length of time than the bills can be scrapped. Can anyone please confirm this and give more details abpout what i need to do to challenge the bills thanks

EON prices

Hi, Can anyone tell me EON standard prices? Usually I pay around £70 per quarter, and I have just opened my current bill and got a huge sum of £1467.60 which is absolutely ridiculous. I had a meter reading on the 27th April, and basically they are saying since the 6th Feb I have used around 13500 units of elec. This is a complete joke as all I have on are some freezers and maybe 4 times a week the washing machine. My other house, being the one nextdoor which is exactly the same has electrical goods constantly on such as tv's sky broadband lights and the kettle gets used a hell of a lot and my bill only comes to around £300 per quarter so I cannot understand why they have sent me such a large bill, and how within 1 quarter I can have a 2000% increase? Please help!!!

Excessive Electricity usage

I have just recieved a bill from E.On telling me they are outtiing my direct debit up to £194 a month! I live in a 3 bed semi with my partner & two kids under 5. When we moved into the property they had the wrong meter no and billed us 79p for 3 months electric (i wish!) knew it was wrong, contacted them gave them the right meter no and thought was sorted. However a year on after numerous phonecalls, two visits by engineers, and an area supervisor I now owe the grand total of £789 even though we have been paying £100 a month for the last 8 months. According to my bills, we have used over 16,000kwh in a year! We have an E10 meter fitted but are being charged on an E7 tariff and both the engineers confirmed this and we were asked to give new meter readings to get our backdated discount. When we phoned with the readings I was told we couldn't have an E10 meter as it only displays 2 readings and should have 3! So we are back at the beginning! We don't have any hot water as we are too afraid to put our immersion on because of the cost ( which isn't ideal with two small kids!0 and we never have the heating on. It's electric rads so know it's expensive so avoid using it! Really need some advice as to what we should do next! looking at the info on average yearly usage compared to our apparent 16,000kwh usage something must be wrong somewhere and E.On do not want to help!

E.On Economy 7 Unbelievably High Bill

I moved into a one bedroom apartment in December. The building is all electric using the economy 7 plan with no gas whatsoever. All the meters are in a locked room (to which I have no access) Upon moving in, my landlord gave me the low & normal meter readings over the phone which I then contacted E.On & gave them the readings to set up a new account. I was quoted a monthly DD payment of £48 which as I work all day & am rarely ever in I felt this was too much but agreed in the short term to go forward with. In March I switched over to Scottish Power as they quoted a monthly DD payment of £21. Now upon receiving my final bill from E.On which covered December thru till end of February, E.On have presented me with a final bill of £352 claiming I have used 3100kWh. I have no washing machine or dryer in the apartment & only one radiator which is a storage heater. I have the storage/water heater set to come on from 03:15 until 07:15 during the off peak period. As this is my first apartment I am not sure what the average energy consumption is but around £117 per month seems unbelievably high. I am getting worried that the landlord initially gave me an incorrect starting meter reading. Any advise on on heter this seem average or on similar consuptions would be greatly appreciated. I am going out of my mind wondering how it is possible to use that much electricity as I live alone. Thanks in advance, Jamie

New build 2 bed flat, high energey consumption?

I recently moved into a 2 bed new build flat that is contained in a block of flats with shops below. It uses all electricity as there is no gas. so far since the 19th of January we've used over 2,000 kw/h. There are two of us in the flat and we both work during the day all week. The things that run all day are the fridge and a built in fan/ventalation system. We run a small dishwasher every 2 days or so (uses 0.7 kw/h a wash) and a washing machine (uses 0.4 kw/h a cycle) that we run 3 times a week. We tumble dry some things for about 30min a week as we dry them half way. We didn't use the computers for a couple months as we didn't have internet when we moved in. we watch tv in the evening but shut it off at the mains before bed and while at work. We also keep an energy efficient bulb on in the lounge during eves. Hob and oven are used for normal dinners in the eve. Hot water heater is on for about 2.5 hours a day. We've used electric heat mostly for the lounge but only when we were in and in the bedrooms for about an hour in the morning but they've been off now for a month. we're frugal with the lighting as we hardly use them. We're are not even yet through the full quarter and I can't think while the usage is so high. As a side note, I looked at the meter today in the cubbard and our flat had the highest consumption out of the floor. the next one down was 5,000 kw/h less than ours.

eon have amended my last 4 bills.

I pay by monthly DD for my electric. I recieved an ebill a couple of weeks ago from eon dated 28th March and am £80 in debit. As normal, I checked the meter readings as they were estimates and they were over a couple of hundred kw on the electric. As long as they over estimate and it is not by a lot, I normally do not do anything about it. My bills have been estimates since June last year and always slightly over what I use.The last time they had an accurate reading was in September when I supplied it. Yesterday, I recieved another ebill dated 10th April. It had exactly the same meter readings from the 28th March bill, but I am now £190 in debit. Nothing is very clear on this bill or why they have done this. What I can see is that they have credited my last 4 bills. recalculated and then charged me more. They have put a breakdown of what electricity they have estimated had been used during each price change period since June. They have not estimated any higher readings, but it seems they have adjusted the times when I used the electricity, so I have used more when the price went up. I am unable to check exactly what they have done as this last bill is broken down into price change periods and my old bills are broken down into quatrely periods. Can they do this? Estimate that I have used more electric when the prices were higher? My quatrely estimates were always slightly higher, so I never provided my own readings (apart from September). I know £100 over is not a lot of money, but it is the principle. Does anyone have any suggestions?

e-on and moneysupermarket tables

How can Moneysupermarket show e-on with 5 stars for service? We’ve just received a bill of £499 for gas for the last quarter which has totally knocked us sideways. We have the heating/hot water on for 8 hours a day (occasionally the heating on a bit longer at the weekend if we’re in and bit over the Christmas hols) and we don’t use the gas for cooking as both our oven and hobs are electric. We live in a three bed house, for which I am told the average yearly consumption is 21000 KWh (to the nearest 1000). Eon say we have used 14000 KWh in the past three months. This seems extremely excessive to me. I have checked that they are calculating our bill correctly (we have a metric meter and they are calculating it as such) and there doesn’t appear to be a leak (the meter isn’t going round when we’re not using gas). I’ve checked how much gas we are using per hour with everything on and it appears to be 1 unit (actually, just over). I did some quick maths and it appears that, even if we had out heating and hot water on for only THREE hours each day it would STILL cost us £155 for the next quarter. My first inkling is that the meter is faulty, but it had also crossed my mind that we might have an extremely inefficient boiler, but surely this wouldn’t account for all the excess? Does 1 unit of gas per hour sound right? Or does it sound a little high? I don’t know anyone else with gas bills as high as ours- AND some have bigger houses and higher consumption rates! Anything anyone can suggest will be much appreciated! Thanks! S :-)
