To cut a long story short - after ordering and repeatedly calling to try to get my broadband and telephone line sorted, I still had no service after over two months, they took 3 months payment and still hadn't transferred my phoneline over to Orange. When I called to cancel my contract which according to their terms & conditions was not valid, I was told I would have to pay £350 in cancellation fees. A blunt letter to the Executive Champion for Customer Service (nice title huh!) stating I would take them to Trading Standards suddenly rectified the problem. Money back and an apology - thank you very much Mr Orange. If you want to persist with Orange - I was advised by an Orange customer service person to try the mobile customer service helpline. Makes me wonder whether the B'band telephone stuff is outsourced- which makes sense as I was treated badly by the Orange b'band customer helpdesk and is very unlike Orange Mobile Customer Service. i didn't try this as I had already written to the Exec Champ. and quite frankly had had enough- but good luck if you try it. Alternatively check the Terms & Conditions of your contract and write to tell them their failings. Then go with Talk Talk (who have been great sofar)!

Orange broadband MAC code

So far I have called these people twice requesting my MAC number. They are a bunch a professional fools. Try ringing them, for at least 3 minutes you get press 1,2,3,4 for this or that service. Eventually some one will speak to you only to tell you that s/he knows nothing about it and has to check. S/he disappears and you start listning to some rubbish music for another 5 minutes. After all this they come back to tell you " we shall e-mail it to you within 5 days". they means within 5 days may be in 2008/09. I called them on 3/4/07 at 18.10 pm. I called them on 13/4/2007 at 12.10 pm and today is 16/4/2007 and I still do not have my MAC code. I shall never use their services nor I would recommend it to anyone. They are absolutely rubbish.

So called outstanding balance

I left Orange at the beginning of September, using a MAC. Due to a *** up on their behalf I was told that my notice period had commenced on 20th August when the MAC was issued so that the account would be closed on 19th September.I was told this both verbally over the phone and by a folllow up email. Since I had already paid to 21st September this meant that I did not owe any monies. Later they tried to tell me that the notice period was only applied wef 10th September when BT told them I had migrated,so that I would owe part of a month. I argued successfully (or so I thought!!) that the original information should stand; after a conversation by the Customer Services agent with "Cancellations" I was told that my account would be closed with immediate effect, with no monies owing. They did try to Direct Debit my bank account the following month;I again queried with Customer Services who sent me another email confirming that I owed no money and the account was closed. I have now received a letter from Direct legal and Collections threatening legal action re an outstanding amount of £17.99 - when I contacted them the agent said that this was for the final balance & unless I settled in full it would be entered on my credit record and legal action taken. I explained the situation to him and read out the emails but all he would say was that I had to get Orange to stop the action.Basically whatever evidence I could produce was irrelevant to him. Having had many conversations with Orange C/S over the past 2 years I don't hold out any hope of getting sense from them. Any thoughts on the best way to proceed?

orange broadband

has orange broadband got any better? plz leave all ur comments x

Appalling support/customer service

I've been with Freeserve through Wanadoo through Orange ever since Freeserve first started up. Through the whole process, I've never had any notable problem with the connection. However, I upgraded to the Home Max package back in April because my old package was very expensive compared to the market alternatives and because I wanted the VoIP line included in the package. I think the VoIP line worked for about a week before failing. Since April, I've made countless phone calls to the appalling offshore support desk, all a complaint waste of time and all at my expense. I've tried emails and even snail mail to their UK address. None of this made any difference. As far as I can tell, nobody within the Orange organisation made the slightest attempt to address my problem. Eventually, I had no choice but to complain to ISPA. Twice. Orange completely ignored the first complaint and eventually responded to the second, after three weeks, although they're supposed to respond within one week. Presumably, they're snowed under with a very large number of ISPA complaints. In the same couple of days, I received both a phone call from an intelligent human being who actually seemed to be trying to solve the problem, as well as a letter from their compliance department offering to release me from the contract, which I will be taking up. Much though I'd like that VoIP line, I simply daren't risk staying with this ISP. I work from home and rely on my connection to earn a living. If it took seven months and two complaints to ISPA before anybody even attempted to solve a problem with a VoIP line, I have no reason to believe things would be any different if my main connection failed. I just couldn't risk staying with a provider with such appalling support and customer service. It's the worst I've ever encountered.

I have a question about speed

I have been with Orange for a year..so far so good..I guess I've been lucky never needed tech support..lol..I've heard it's bad. I was on 2mb broadband £17.99 a month, I noticed they offered a faster speed for the same price..just meant another years contract, so I thought..not going nowhere why not...they said it would take ten days to complete..it took three..now I'm getting 7.6mb broadband...but am I ? My son who lives a mile away had a bit of a fall out with orange two weeks ago and has since dumped them and went to Bt...when he talked to Bt on the phone they said that because of the area we live in the most they could offer him speed wise was 3mb..( funny I thought were on the same exchange ) yet I'm getting a mighty 7.6....so I went to Bt.com and used the speed checker...this will tell me that orange is pulling a fast one I thought..typed in my number...pressed the button and...the most you can get on your line is....7mb...So I typed in my sons number....pressed the button.....the most he can get is....8mb Confused..so am I...Must say I don't notice a great deal of difference..between 2 and 7 depends really on the site your downloading from among other factors..so is orange telling the truth... or is Bt telling the truth...maybe they are on the phone but not on their website..maybe to make you think you will get a faster connection than you actually can..when you sign up to them...But how can you actually prove it..? They say cant do anything until line is live. Called BT – no problem – they said line live 28th March. BT asked if I wanted to keep my number – I replied don’t care as I only use it as a line to carry orange broadband and orange home phone and sky TV. I did ask if it would make any difference with setting up broadband they said probably faster if I keep the same number so I said hey I’ll keep the same number then. Called Orange back – even with same BT number nothing can be done until line physically live. Fri 28th March move in. Get a text message from BT about midday to say new line on – great. Call orange to switch broadband. Orange say nothing they can do until BT line activated which is 2 working days – GGGRRRR! Call BT they say they know nothing about line activation. Call orange back they insist they cannot see the line until it is activated by BT (even though its live and working!!!). Tue 1st April call Orange hooray the line is activated, can you switch my broadband now please please please. Er no ……… the marker must be removed!! Er what marker? The marker associated with my already existing account with orange – so its my marker on my line but it has to be removed. This will take up to 5 working days – GGGRRR!! I called BT wholesale / markers team, they say it might have been quicker if I had not taken my number with me but instead was issued a new number, contrary to what I was told by B T – GGGRRR!!. I asked them what if I change my mind now and as for a new number recognizing that orange would then need 2days again to wait for line activation but that then a marker would not be on a new number – but silly me BT tell me a new number might still have a marker on it and its not worth the risk – GGGRRR!! So I’ve got to wait 5days. I progress with Orange – they suggest ringing at end of week to see if it has progressed any faster. Fri 4th April – Call orange to see how marker removal going – they now have a date for removal – its Wednesday 9th April – but I say hey that’s 6working days you told me 5. Nothing they can do as its all done by BT. Called BT nothing they can do its in the system. Call orange back to at least see if we can progress my new order now we have a date for marker removal. No chance marker must be removed before they can progress new order. Wed 9th April late afternoon. Call Orange to see if my marker has been removed. Orange contact BT while I wait on line reply is that there has been a delay and BT has told Orange to call bac on Friday for an update (not even a new date for removal – just an update). Not always believeing what Orange say I call BT marker team. They confirm the delay on Wed 9th April but tell me its due for removal next day Thur 10th April. I call back Thur 10th april 3pm but this time call BT first – they tell me it has been delayed and is now due to be removed Tuesday 15th April (That’s 10days after Orange told me it would be 5days). Now if it happens on Tuesday 15th and then the new broadband takes the max7days after that this means that I would have been without broadband for 27 days. Now I am not technically minded but my simple mind would suggest that in todays world of tehnology and communications that this system is diabolical at best. It takes far too long, these organizations (in my case BT and Orange) do not communicate and give their customers wrong and misleading information almost constantly.

Broadband - Direct Save Telecom

I would like to hear of any experiences (good or bad) with Direct Save Telecom. I have since had a line check done and also many troubleshooting problems performed and today was told there is a fault with the B.T. line I am wondering if this is a stalling question a stock answer to the problem. On Friday 1/6/07 I had a line check performed and was advised to stay off the internet but keep my pc switched on for 24 hours and not to use the telephone for three hours while the line test was done, result saturday 2/6/07 exactly 24 hours later a solid connection this lasted until sunday 3/6/07, then it was cut again and had intermittent problems connecting but could re-connect only to be cut off again after 10 mins on average. My girlfriend and I rely on our internet connection as we have a long distance relationship and really need stability when it comes to internet. I went into a local Orange shop and asked if I could phone support from there, to be fair the guy in the shop was very helpful and although I could not contact support because I was using an Orange mobile and for some reason was given so many different numbers only to be told that was I on an Orange Mobile account, by this time I was so fed up I only want a stable connection. I am now left in two minds what to do next, my connection is very intermittent and very troublesome, they told me to phone support yet again after 24 hours to see if B.T. have performed the repair (not sure if this is true at all maybe it is just a cover?). I need some advice please what shall I do next, what would you do?

Orange MAC and LLU

Orange have told me that they do not know when they can give me a MAC code as there are problems with my line as it is part of an LLU. Advise will be greatfully recieved!

Why can I no longer download programs/drivers etc!??

I can surf the internet but I cannot download and programs or drivers!! It seemed to happen overnight. I never had any problems with Freeserve/Wanadoo! I had my hard drive reformatted and winXP reinstalled but problem is still there. I ran the Dr Speedtouch diagnostic and got: Connecting to a Website Failed Dr SpeedTouch was unable to reach a Website via HTTP. This is typically due to an incorrect Proxy Server configuration. Using a Proxy Server is currently disabled. Please make sure no Firewall or local proxy software is preventing Dr SpeedTouch from connecting to the Internet. Verify your service provider installation instructions for Proxy Server configuration and press the link below to verify or reconfigure your computer's Internet Settings. I have never used proxy server settings and I know its not the firewall as I turned it off and did the test!! Please help!! They are particularly interested in the customer service and technical support that people are getting from Orange at the moment and whether it's good or bad. They're running a programme next Weds (May 16th) about the issue and are looking for people to send in their experiences ASAP by email, they intend to ask an Orange spokesperson to attend and ask them what they think of the feedback from customers. Please send your experiences before the end of Tuesday to: louise.cocker AT bbc.co.uk Cheers Jason

Internet in UK & France

I am currently with Orange France, but need to use the internet when I travel to UK for a 6 week stay every year, what are my options? I've looked at Freeola PAYG but problem is my Virgin landline in UK charges 6p/min for 0845 numbers so it works out expensive. If I could find cheap "cancellation fees" on contract broadband it may be worth paying the penalty. What do you think? Many thanks Trix

Orange Live Box, Advice Needed.....

As a long suffering subscriber to NTL/Virgin Media I am counting down the days till I wave goodbye to the service. After 3 months I cancelled and went with Orange. Still no ADSL signal so cancelled as I thought I'll have to go with BT. left it a while and then maybe last month I tried to sign up with BT broadband but couldn't. I called them and was advised that there is a tag/marker from orange on the line. Called orange who kindly removed the line but I tried to sign up again and was asked for a MAC code. Called orange for a MAC code who advised me they couldn't provide me with a MAC since I had closed my account and they had no means of providing me with one. Called BT to say this and was advised that legally they couldn't touch the line without a MAC. What was I to do? I was in a catch 22 situation. I ended up logging a complaint with the ISPA at http://www.ispa.org.uk. within about 3 days I had a letter from orange apologising and advising me that they had personally called BT and arranged to have the service removed from the line so that I would then be free to sign up MAC-less for Tomorrow (13/7/07). I will post back here and let you know if this was done or not tomorrow.

A big "thank you" to Tremic

Hi Tremic Just wanted to let you know that I faxed all my correspondence to and from Orange to the person you had dealt with. I then had a call from him last Sunday. He was very apologetic and told me that he would cancel my account immediately and I wouldn't have to pay any further charges from them. He also said I wouldn't hear any more from them (hurray!!). They did send a pre-paid bag last week and asked for all their equipement back or they would charge £100! Needless to say I have sent it back, along with every letter, bit of wire, and a broken power supply that I could find. So, thanks for you help Tremic!!!
