However, there are several minor to major failings that you would not expect from a company that handles YOUR money. Here are a few of the important ones: * At time of writing this, they have let their SSL security certificate expire for their website. This means that fraudsters could masquerade as FairFX and collect their customers' login details. * When you log into www.fairfxcard.com to administer your account, including view transaction details and purchase more funds, your user session does not time out after a set period of inactivity. Even the user who thinks he has logged out has not necessarily done so, because FairFX use two domains (fairfx.com and fairfxcard.com) and shunt the user back and forth between the two without the user necessarily noticing. So you can be logged out of one domain, but not the other. I have returned to my PC literally hours after having logged in to FairFX to find I'm still logged in. This is a very serious security failing, especially when you consider that the cards are used primarily by tourists who may be logging into their account from an internet café abroad. * You have to study the online statement of transactions very closely to make any sense of it. This is because it's presented as a very basic credit / debit / balance statement, but it is not. The balance brought forward, followed by a credit or debit from a transaction, never seems to result in the correct new balance, which can be very disconcerting when a quick calculation reveals that the new balance is out by a very significant amount. Only the balance plus all transactions over a period of days results in a correct available balance. So if it's not a basic debit / credit statement, why is it presented as one? Making sense of the online statement is further complicated by their use of the US date format, which is odd for a UK-based company. * The above issues have been pointed out to FairFX, but they don't seem to be in a hurry to fix them. They announced a platform update a while back, so I was hopeful the problems would be fixed. But no joy. In short, the service works, but given the serious security issues with the website, I'd say use FairFX at your own risk. Here it seemed was the vehicle for getting funds to a social project in Eastern Europe. I'm operating a social enterprise which keeps a permanent presence in Ukraine. I'd tried most other forms of transfer including WU, Moneygram, bank transfer and Ikobo.Of all Moneygram seemed fairest but was the most un-automated requiring a bank withdrawal to take cash to a post office. Others doing similar things overseas soon gathered around a Facebook group on this topic I chose Tuxedo which seemed the best deal at the time and was happy to pay what amounted to 2.25% on each ATM withdrawal of arounf £100. Recently we began to suspect that funds were going missing until realising that we were taking a hit on the foreign exchange rate which amounted to another 7.6% of funds. Before giving up, to return to Moneygram I wondered if I'd be likely to find another prepaid card without the concealed fees.

travel money card charges when loaded by credit card

Hi I'm looking at getting a travel money card for my holiday and was looking to see if it is possible to load the card with a credit card. It would be reasonable to ask for identification if we want the service but no to withdraw from it! The following is the snapshot of his email written to the customer service and their responses (which did not answer the question posed): Dear sir, For your information, those documentations are required only to proceed with the application but NOT to CANCEL it. Moreover, I have checked the information from your website regarding this matter at: http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&userType=G&categoryId=65611. The following are the relavent information to prove that I am not required to proved my identification to process this application. Will I require any ID to complete my card application? No. When you apply for your card, we will ask for your name, and full address with a valid postcode. We need this to deliver your card. However we do reserve the right to decline your application if the details you provide do not match the details on our postal address database. We will also use external verification agencies to confirm your address as part of our commitment to fraud prevention. AND THEIR RESPOND: We will require identification documents before any refund is issued. RECOMMENDATION TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE: At least they could inform us the reason for thier action ie the need for prove of identification which I could not see one, unless, they wanted to misuse our personal information for their personal gain! Please THINK TWICE before enrolling into their service! Wanted to share the experience with all of you and save you all the trouble of making the same mistake. Thanks for your kind attention,

Need Help with Pre-Paid credit cards ... He holds a Thai passort which is printed in Thai and english but has not currently worked in the UK or applied for a driving license. I contacted my long standing bank (cahoot) with a view to adding him as a joint account holder but they have refused point blank saying that he must have resided here three years! (even though I was prepared to offer a guarantee on his behalf). We have since approached several banks most of who would not offer an account for more or less the same reasons. The Co-operative bank said they could and we completed the on line application - however the welcome pack required him to provide proofs of ID that he dosnt have. The only identity documents he has are his passport, our civil partnership document, his ID card (but in Thai) and a UK medical card. The only other bank that indicated it might be able to offer him a "limited" personal account is HSBC - but of course this account did not offer on-line banking and I think made a monthly charge. I really dont know where to turn - I feel that the banking industry are not only ignoring my past good banking record but also insulting my partner who has made a committment to live with me in the UK. They all cite money laundering regulations however if that were really the case how come HSBC are able to to open an account and how is my credit card company able to issue a second credit card on my account in his name? Can you offer any advice on how we can operate a joint bank account which, apart from being needed when he starts work, will be very helpful in supporting his application to remain here indefinitely next year

Pre paid credit cards

Can anyone recommend a decent company I can get a pre pay card from? For the last 5 to 6 months, we get two customers (black guys) who come in with their prepaid cards. In a single nighy, they usually topup their prepaid cards twice on the pay point with the highest amount (i.e. GBP 498 + 498). What bothers me is that every time they come in, they pay it with a credit card (which they ofcourse never show to the member of staff). If sometimes we are experiencing paypoint connection problems, these guys remain very calm and composed and oftenly guide our staff how to carry out transaction. They even leave their money with us and tell us that they'll come later to topup again, if the paypoint is not topping up. Can any one help me what's going on? Thanks

Is there a free prepaid credit card available for under 18s?

Hi all, As the title suggests I'm wondering if there is a Free Prepaid Credit Card available to anyone under 18? I have seen plenty online that maybe cost between £5 and £10, but the problem arises when it comes to paying for this if you are under 18 and do not have a credit or debit card. Ideally, is there a card you can pick up or apply for somewhere, for under 18s, for free, then simply top up money at an ATM or post office as you please? I'm guessing not, but thought I would ask anyway. Thanks in advance :)
