Can anyone advise me how strong a signal the wireless router ii has and whether its worth upgrading to the PRO package to get the N enabled router? I live in an old victorian house with thick walls if that makes a difference? any advise is appreciated also anyone who has had both boxes your experiences would be highly welcome in terms of any difference etc K

O2 Broadband - Atrocious

I'm coming (thankfully and mercifully) to the end of a contract that I've had with O2 broadband for a year... and in that time, the service has been... well, to paraphrase a movie line, emotional. First, my contract speed was supposed to be 8Mb/448Kb - for the first 10 weeks (yes, TEN!) I was lucky to get downloads of 0.8Mb. Their excuse? They were having issues with the BT exchange and hoped it would be resolved soon. Did I get an offer of a rebate? Not on your life... Second, their router kept going on the blink. They sent another one out, and the same thing happened. For the last 8 months, I've not been able to get into the configuration element of the web application to it, because it doesn't recognise my Administrator password - the only user configured, and the only one that I use to get to see it all. I can configure some bits, but can I get into the main settings? One guess... I spoke to the so-called customer service, who helpfully provided me with a "backdoor" pass... one which now, strangely, no longer works. Which means that they have complete control over my connection and internal LAN... When I decided to leave them, I had a 90 second conversation with their "Customer Retention" person, who basically said "You want to leave? Fine, goodbye." What a company... I'm surprised they're still in business. Although reading about their antics regarding no refund/no rebate etc., maybe it makes sense... after all, the old organized crime loan sharks are still around, aren't they? Bottom line... don't touch O2 broadband with a bargepole.

O2 broadband discount

Hi I'm currently paying £45 a month for an iphone 3gs and I'm wondering if taking out 02 broadband will result in any discounts? All other packages for broadband seem to require, phone/line rental and some tv which knocks the price right up and already paying £45 a month for mobile I don't really want to be paying another £30 a month on top of that. I live on my own and this would be rather excessive. Been trying to switch ISP to O2 Broadband for nearly 5 months. These are the attempts. 1. Tried to switch online. System did not recognise my bank. 2. E-mailed. Told to call Sales. Got a grumpy Scottish call centre worker who said my home phone number of several years did not exist. No attempt to resolve the matter. 3. E-mailed again. Told to visit an O2 store. Finally my order was accepted. Received a letter saying the switch was imminent. Nothing ever happened. 4. Called customer services. Did not know what the problem was. Someone would call back. No one ever called. 5. Called customer services another 2 times. Told switch would be soon. Nothing. 6. Sent letter to O2 complaints dept. Again no response. I am probably lucky that I never switched to O2 if this is the kind of service it provides. Just how difficult is it for them to communicate. As a O2 customer with 2 mobile accounts that I am about to cancel it does make me wonder whether they want peoples business or not.

formal complaint submitted about evening and weekend speed

well now it seems everyman and his dog have signed up to o2 because of the low prices the speed im getting has dropped like a stone to near dial up speed of between 0.1 and 0.2mbps from 5pm to midnight every day and its almost as bad at the weekend purely because of the amount of people theyve signed up. its virtually unusable so i submitted a formal complaint to them as i should be able to get 5mbps on my line with their service to unbundled areas but mines never even got close to that, i dont know why ofcom let isp's get away with such misleading statements about speed. it got dramatically worse after christmas about when they lowered the price to £7 so im guessing theyve had so many people join up that theyve oversubscribed the network and its all being taken up by steaming video from people coming in after work. i really dont know why people rate this so highly, perhaps my service to unbundled areas is different to their regular service but i want out of my contract to join a decent isp where the internet is at least useable in the evenings.

O2 Broadband - top banana

I have just got O2 broadband for £7.50 a month having signed up to a month by month simplicity SIM only deal. This has brought over my phone number from Orange. I have previously struggled with poor, unreliable connections until moving to O2. The O2 connection is stable and quick. The router, whilst bascically a Tompson in an O2 shell does the job. For the first time, my laptop and PDA don't drop signal and make use of the near 8MB speed. This was not the case previously (0.5 meg at best). O2 send you texts at each stage after the MAC code transfer, router delivery, line connection etc and were spot on. Their helpline is free and quick. At last, something that works with a decent customer service and a decent price. This review may sound a bit over the top but the package is good value, dependable and won't tie you in to any contract. I recomend O2.

O2

In my opnion, the best ISP out there at present. What can I say about it. Well firstly I should say I have good experience in setting up home networks and am far from a novice. I transferred from Sky Broadband. Was told my speeds would be better because it uses ADSL2. Customer services would be better because it is 24/7. Oh and there were no limits on things like emails. Seemless transition blah blah. I get a modem that turns out was faulty. That's after THREE HOURS on the phone to support. The new modem arrives. Speeds are good for my area at nearly 3mg. Then after a week they were around 1.1mg and 1.5mb. LESS than I have got on rival services. On top of that o2 has set things up so that using a third party router becomes a headache. Their router it has to be then. Except it has been set up so that putting in manual settings such as MAC codes to ensure that only computers with certain identities can access the router, cannot be done. Also (yes there is a long list), setting up a network is a headache, you have to ensure that each computer talks to the router using a STATIC ip NOT variable IPs which is what o2s software defaults to. Yet I was told that I would be able to do th is and that the networking was seamless. WRONG. And o2 are worse than useless in telling you how to get around this problem. So unless you are a dab hand with networks, it is a complete nightmare. On top of that they restrict your email sending. Something I checked first. I reply to a high volume of emails to a forum I run. But the maximum number of emails I send is about 150 a week. Usually in one day. But o2 doesn't allow you to send any more than 50 and now limits to 10 at a time. WITHOUT discussion and without anything mentioned on the website or in our calls to sales. And we asked about it. Worse, the so call great customer services is NOT. My last email complaing copied to the chief executive has been sitting in the inbox for EIGHT days without one word back. In short it has been something like six weeks now and my network remains up and down, speeds are well below the standard that I have seen from other networks and customer services is c..p. It's best attribute is it is cheap, but so is Sky. And while Sky isn't the best I would have to say it's infinitely better than o2 Broadband's service which is a complete nightmare. I would strongly advise to think twice before swapping. Or at least make sure that everything you are told on the phone is in writing.

O2 Broadband Excellent

Brilliant, rang 26th July to enquire about Broadband, I was on-line 7 days later. Just to let you know that O2 Broadband, besides costing only 7.50 per month, the customer service is excellent, and excellet speed as well. Certainly worth it for those who is hunting for a good provider. ALso comes with with a free wireless router which is quite handy.
