The designated premium had increased by 33% from the current year despite not making use of the service. The new figure also claimed to have a "no call-out" discount! I compared available policies and identified cheaper opportunities with virtually the same cover. However, before deciding I checked my current insurer's web site as a new customer and established that I could obtain a new policy with the same benefits for approximately 40% less than the renewal! This included an internet discount. Following contact with the call centre, the person answering my call did not appear to be surprised over the differential, and accepted that I intended to cancel the renewal. It does appear that loyalty and continuing business is not rewarded as much as attempting to gain new business. I haven't driven it for the last year (you don't get much driving in London, sadly) and was thinking of getting it back in shape for the summer. Right now of course the insurance expired and would need a new one. The problem is that apparently it has some mechanical problem and would not start Has anybody had a similar situation? Does anybody know if any insurance/breakdown cover scheme would cover this if I got it now? Probably just needs a tow to mechanic and tweaking the starter but... worth asking in any case Thanks! :)

Tesco Car Warranty Plan

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Tesco Car Warranty, or similar plans which cover the cost of repairs (not breakdown) for an annual premium, and what the experts on here think about these types of insurance. I drive an Alfa Romeo, and although very reliable, when parts have to be replaced it is very expensive - Tesco charge a premium because it is an Alfa. I have had a quote (£339) and looked at the policy document/summary and it sounds reasonable - the payment can also be spread over 10 months without interest also. The 'Standard' (actually the mid-range cover) includes Wear and Tear cover, but all levels of cover specifically exclude exhausts and tyres - unfortunate given that I've just been quoted £800 for necessary exhaust repairs! Are there any similar policies known that include wear and tear and exhaust cover? Thanks in advance! I called VW assist and they said they were unable to continue to cover me as I no longer had a VW and therefore I was entiteld to a £68.00 credit. They advised that this credit could be trasferred over to cover an RAC policy, which was £92.00, i.e I just needed to pay the balance. I agreed to this, safe in the knowledge that I had a 14 day cooling off period and then went to check prices on money supermarket. I was staggered to find I could get the same cover as RAC for just £42.00, so decided that I should just go with that instead. When I rang the RAC to cancel the cover, they advised that unless I went with them, I was not entitled to my money back from VW assist. I cannot see why I should be forced to take an RAC policy, which is dearer than my VW cover and also that of other competitors, is this legal?

Would you bother with break down cover?

Im thinking of getting break down cover on a policy, joint one that is inc relay. £95 inc £40 cash back through the aa. Checking on-line and applying for cover as a NEW member, the premium is £10.00 cheaper than my "special price". Experience shows you should always check the new customer price first, I have caught out several suppliers in this way. Many years ago when I was a buyer, I was told a tale of a major on-line stationery supplier who have different priced catalogues for new and existing customers. I always ordered a new client catalogue every year and compared to the repeat customer brochure I saved a considerable sum.

european cover

I am looking for a brekdown cover that covers for european trips for more than 60 days i would like one that covers all aspects of cover thanks

bought breakdown cover and never got anything sent to me?

I bought breakdown cover on Saturday and have not got any info from either moneysupermarket or the breakdown company? what should I do next? confused?

Opinions Please

Hi I wanted to ask your thoughts on this. A while ago I had a tyre blow out on the motorway, this caused me to lose control of my vehicle and crash into the central reservation - now I take full responsibilty for this and this is not what I want opinions on, it's what happened next. So, police arrived, towed my car across the carriageway on to the hard shoulder. They took all the necessary details and asked me how I wanted to recover my vehicle as it was no longer roadworthy, they offered me two options one was their own recovery agents but it would cost me £200 and the other was to ring my own breakdown service, in this case the AA, I opted to ring the AA as I have Relay Plus (ie should take you home or garage of you choice after an accident), phoned them and as it was an RTA they would only come out if I paid £150.00 which I did over the phone. The police then left me on the hard shoulder awaiting recovery, I have no problems wth this, they must have better things to do than wait with me, however an hour and a half later a breakdown truck finally arrives, hooks me up and then tells me that as its an RTA they can only take me to the nearest place of safety. This turned out to be 1/2 mile down the road to a service station on the M1, 200 miles from home, with no transport and no means of getting to the nearest town. My question is, would you consider for a female travelling alone, a motorway service station to be a place of safety? Its been some time since this happens but it still makes me angry, more with myself for never challenging it.

AA Renewal

I have the top AA cover for this year which is £172 i recieved my letter and accepted that was what they would take from me on my renewal date. Any comments much appreciated drmel

Breakdown Cover

To drmel and XERAM My car is very well looked after serviced at the correct intervals and maintained regardless of cost. Last week I returned to it after parking at Coventry Airport for eleven days. Pressed the button on the key fob....nothing, opened the door manually put the key in the ignition and turned it on.....nothing. The battery was completely flat. I live in Sheffield over eighty miles away. Now before you scoff at the cost of breakdown assistance, what would you have done in my place, 1. Phone a friend to come and tow you home, 160 miles round trip, you'd find out who your friends are!!!. 2. Get some-one to start you with jump leads, if you’re lucky. 3. Phone the nearest garage to help, at what cost? I am a member of GREEN FLAG so I went to phone them 0800 freephone explained my problem (time 1.45 p.m.) they said some-one would be there within the hour, as I was walking back to the car I got a text from them telling me name of the garage who would be coming to help. Van arrived with mechanic at 2.05 p.m. The car was started and checked the battery was charging and I was on the road at 2.15.p.m. 30 minutes after I called them. Leaving the map light on had caused the problem. Incidentally the mechanic said jump leads were not used now as there was a danger of 'blowing’ the E.C.U ( Electronic) Control Unit) of the car being assisted, a point to bear in mind for the non breakdown members of the forum. I'm currently saving for RAC breakdown cover. I need £19.75 in vouchers to get joint cover worth £79!!
