My partner and I are trying to really look at our finances and get to grips with everything paid out. We have a mortgage, a loan, credit cards etc and seem to be paying out PPI on each thing. Recently my partner almost got made redundant and although the mortgage, loan etc would have been paid through this it got me thinking that the PPIs don't cover, gas/elec, petrol costs etc. My question is, would we be better cancelling all these and taking out income protection insurance instead? Many thanks

Insurance excess - at fault accident

Hi All Just wondering, had a small scrape in my car tonight. My car is built like a tank so has no damage but, I've put quite a nasty scuff in the bumper of the other car and, took the number plate off. Trust me though to find the only bloody Porsche in the car park!! *sigh* Just wondering, if the repairs are going to cost too much, then it will have to go through the insurance. If that did happen, I know that the other party will need to pay their excess and claim it back from my insurance. What would happen with the amount claimed back off my insurance though... would I need to pay my excess and the insurance company pay the rest or, does my insurance company pay the whole lot out? *confused* There's no clear explanation of this anywhere on the internet as far as I can see :( Any advice would be much appreciated. TIA Daryl

sickness and unemployment insurance

last year my husband suffered respitorary and cardiac arrest at home and was dead for 3 -4 mins. It took me 6 months to get our insurance to pay out for our mortgage payments. My husband had a permanent job but once he was ready to go back to work, his employer refused to make the necessary changes to my husbands job so that he could continue. He was offered a job somewhere else that was possible going to be easier and as we didnt know if he would last a day or a week because of his now longterm lung disease, and because we were paid or mortgage payments one month in arrears i stupidly didnt realise you didnt have to let insurers know immediatly and told him to hang on for 2 weeks until he was sure he could do the job and then we would let insurers know. When we did tell them 2 wks later we were told we had committed fraud and would have to return £500 and they would no longer be able to insure him any more. I disputed this and explained my mistake offereing to pay back the 18 days over they had paid us. they agreed to this but still wont insure us and now my husband is becoming ill again and is looking at handing in his resignation but we have no insurance for our mmortagage and dont know what to do. Were insurers correct in cancelling our policy or were they wrong to do so? if they were correct do you think any other insurer will take my husband on for sickness and unemployment cover. thanks

Car Insurer Won't Even Look Into Claim, Advice Please??

Hi there I have had some fab advice from this site before, and am hoping someone can offer some this time! My hubby was cycling home from work a month ago, when a car driver infront of him indicated and started to turn left, then changed her mind and pulled right, causing him to crash over the bonnet of her car, breaking his finger and his bike! We have a witness to the accident, it has been reported to the Police and he has been to Hospital and also has a Physio appointment for this week. We spoke to her Insurers - Direct Line who asked hubby to get 2 independent reports from Cycle shops regarding the cost of repairs to the bike. We did this and sent off the info a couple of weeks ago. On chasing this up today, hubby was told that their client denied that she turned left, said that he crashed into her (yeah, I'll just deliberately drive into a car at 25 miles an hour) and they were not even going to investigate it! Told him to get legal help himself as he would need it! First question is - why would Direct Line ask him to get damage reports from bike shops if they were not even going to investigate? Secondly, surely every single person who has an accident is going to deny responsibility, of course they are, so do they not bother investigating anything? Not quite sure what to do now, other than a No Win, No Fee thingy, which we don't really want to do. Any advice would bre gratefully received!

Low Volicity Impact Personal Injury Claim

After a very low speed impact (on a McDonalds drive through) not only is the other party claiming for damage to their vehicle but has now put in a claim for whiplash!! This has come up in BBC watch dog and VOSA , vauxhall owner campaign etc., Lets say the car is on a accident because of Electric power failure in Vauxhall meriva's. On investigation what will the insurance companies say? Is it going to be a owners fault or you will suing Vauxhall company? What does the law say? We need to find travel insurance to cover just the flights from the UK to Crete, and of course the return leg from Crete back to the UK. The policy needs to be for travellers aged over 70, and needs to cover a range of pre-existing medical conditions. European Annual policies are not applicable, as they seem to only cover a maximum 31 day stays at our age, which is insufficient duration for us, and they also insure for the duration of the stay in Europe, which we do not need. European Single Trip policies whilst sometimes covering up to 92 days trip duration, also cover the period of stay in the European destination, which is not required, and are prohibitively expensive at our age when covering our pre-existing medical conditions. Can anybody help with details of Travel Insurance cover for the usual range of events, but only for the lead up to, and duration of, the outbound and return flights?

So stupid...

..is what I am. We've had a very unlucky few months with our car. After having no problems wit this car for two and a half years, on two separate occasions, we've had our car badly scratched down one side when it was parked in a road/car park. Stupidly, I claimed on the insurance because no-one told me not to. And then, to add to the problem, my other named driver made contact with the car in front when it stopped abruptly at a traffic light, thus initiating another claim All this happened during our last Insurance year. Apart from the last claim (which is pending) the sums haven't been great. I wish I knew that this was going to completely distort this year's renewal. It has more than trebled, and furthermore I am just in the process of buying a new car, and the insurance company have decided they don't want to cover me any more, even though it's a newer version of the same car I'm driving. I wish my insurance broker, Swinton, had said something to me; maybe it's not their job. They've only been able to find one company to insure me, and, needless to say, it's a fortune. Much more than the cost of the damage to the vehicle. I've been driving for 27 years and - apart from the last named driver claim - have never had an accident. Any ideas, or would Swinton have tried everybody there is?

Car Accident - NON Fault - advice please

Last week parked in a car parking space on return to my car a gentleman approached me asking if it was my car, I confirmed it was, he told me he had witnessed an accident, a lady had backed her car into mine, shunted my car forwards into a rail, she then reversed and took off without leaving any details or stopping. I was very lucky this man was a visiting the same place as me and he quite happily gave me his details if there was any problems with insurance and he said be happy to help. I was able to get the women's details from the place I had visited I rang her and informed her a witness saw her back into my car and leave without stopping to which she replied "did I" She came back to the car park and her car was clearly damaged on the back bumper with my cars paint was attached to it. My back bumper is dented and cracked, whilst she was there she looked at it and still denied hitting it even though her car was damaged too. She announced my car didnt look that damaged it was just a scratch! I took a photo of her damage and gave her my telephone number she said she would speak to her husband and ring me. She left it 3 days, in the meantime I checked my insurance excess which is £400 and when I rang her I suggested I take it to a local garage if she consented and get a quote, she agreed. The quote I got was £270.00. I called this lady back she said it was very high and that she would like another, again I went and got another quote and today rang her she now wants to go through her insurance, her husband came on the phone today and more or less called me a liar saying there was no damage to my car! (How he would know that is beyond me as he wasnt there) ! Sods law I have 10 years + on my no claims bonus, my insurance is due for renewal in 2 weeks time and I dont want to get stung for £400 excess and risk my renewal policy going up.My policy states I have to pay the excess, unfortunately I am due to have an operation, and 6 weeks recovery and really havent the £400 to pay out at this time. I have to pay the excess whether its my fault or not, and will have to claim it back through my motor legal protection and I am going to be out of pocket for months, and none of this was my fault. I have been more than patient, got 2 quotes done all the running around and phone calls and today has just really been the icing on the cake so to speak with this couples attitude. This woman hits my car, then protests she didnt ! even though an independent witness saw it all, then says there's not much damage for £270.00 more or less calling me a liar !!! Can anyone give me advice please whether I can pursue small claims on this matter to avoid paying out £400 policy excess. BUT I see an unexpected problem- my union solicitors want to know about any other legal aid insurance cover I had in place a the time of the accident. This could involve my house insurers. Would this increase future premiums? Who else should I inform/ needs to know if I persue my claim? Car insurers etc?? A friend of mine got hit by a car a few weeks back while cycling in the town centre and I just wondered who would pay for her hospital stay etc. Any information would be much appreciated! Thanks, Kate

Car accident attending public event - are we liable?

Hi, this might seem an unusual one. I volunteer for a charity and we held a car boot today on a field which we rent from a nearby social club. We have signs clearly indicating the entry to the field and on entering all drivers are met by our volunteers. All the booters and buyers park on the field and are shown where to go by the volunteers. A man has approached us to say that he had damaged his car on the car park of the social club adjacent to the field, and as he was parking in order to attend our car boot we are liable. I have explained that we do not use the social club car park - nor are we allowed to, but the man is threatening to take us to court unless we pay up. Would we be liable for this? My first thoughts are that we would only have been liable if he had come on to the field and we had in some way influenced by negligence or otherwise him having an accident. Any advice or reassurance would be greatly appreciated.
