Occasionally, they failed to a regular payment on time but they always managed to catch up within a month. When I cancelled my long-standing demon account to move to a more competitive supplier I was told that my account was up to date and that I should cancel my direct debit. I received the service termination letter and thought everything was OK. I year later, I received a letter from a debt collection agency informing me that I owed Demon money! I requested a statement and managed to decode the somewhat cryptic printout. It looks like due to an error in their system they “forgot” to take a payment earlier in the year so they tried to sneakily debit it a month after my account with them had been closed. Needless to say the collection bounced. They didn’t bother to write to let me know so they silently and unsuccessfully tried to collect the outstanding amount every month for over a year before giving up and referring the matter directly to a debt collection agency. Checking against my bank statements showed that I owed them money and I paid it immediately. I received a letter informing me that all is OK and the debt collection agency had been informed. You would have thought that would have been the end of it but no… I received a call from the debt collection agency a month later still demanding payment. They called me when I was in a supermarket and refused to speak to Demon without knowing the cheque number, date and amount paid. Just the sort of information I carry around with me when shopping! Demon are totally useless. I know that occasionally things can go wrong, but reading around I get the impression that this level shoddy billing is happening to other Demon customers. (For example, search for "Demon 'forgets' to bill customer for four years") I would recommend anyone to avoid Demon and choose a less stressful supplier.

Demon Broadband

There does not appear to be a posting on Demon Broadband. Is it that good no one has a complaint? Well i have just switched to them from Eclipse becuase Eclipse were screwing me over charges. I have had Demon for about a month and they still have'nt resolved a problem i have setting up Microsoft Office 2003 to receive my emails and despithe emailing them 3 times have still not replied to a problem with their Alacatel Modem.I am not amused by their lack of support and now have to wait until my contract has expired to change ISP. The only good thing is that it has given me time to find a decent ISP !

Moved house, No BT line, Demon insist I pay for full 12 month contract?

Hi I signed up for Demon Broadband in November. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to move house a couple of months later. Demon advised me to cancel broadband at my old property and then call them to re-instate it at the new home. When I called them to re-instate the service they could not do this because there is no BT line at the house. Phone services are provided by NTL/Virgin to the property. No mention was made of additional payments or contracts. I recieved an email saying my current service had been cancelled. But now they have sent me a bill for £185 which they say is because I signed a 12 month contract for BB with them. They say I signed a contract, but I would argue that as they are unable to supply the service to the new property they are effectively breaking any agreement we had? I have sent a letter asking them to waive this fee, but haven't heard anything yet. Any advice would be much appreciated. It's bad enough having to move home without having to pay a fee for a service I cannot receive! I cancelled the contract a few weeks back (with 1 month notice), as I am moving to a different house and do not want to continue the service. However - I received a phone call yesterday from their customer services team, letting me know that no direct debit payments had been taken since I joined, and that I now owed £214.74! I had not noticed that this was the case - and he could not give me any explanation about why this happened - he simply said "it is one of those things!" Do I have any option other than paying the money to them? I am extremely annoyed that 1) nobody noticed the payments were not being taken, and 2) that they cannot provide me with a satisfactory explanation! Anyone else had experiences like this? What should I do next? Thanks!
