I was thinking of getting the E.on central heating care with electrics cover but have read some horrible reivews on this site which has made me think twice. I'm based int he midlands and I have my gas and electrcity through E.on. Can anyone give me advice on whether these type of plans are worth it? If so then what are the most reputable companies to get cover from? The last thing I want is to be without a boiler should the worst happen! THanks in advance!

British Gas Service Contract

If I change my gas and electricity supplier from British Gas, do any of the other companies have the service contract which they have and are they worthwhile?

Swalec shield gas central heating protection

Hi, I joined Southern Electric's Shield Gas central heating protection plan back in November - I received my confirmation letter on the 26th November 2007 and was aware of the 14 day cool off - no problem. Jan 1st 2008 - my boiler springs a leak and i call Shield - the engineer came out within 2 hours - brilliant. The engineer then tells us that the heat exchanger is cracked and unfixable and that we are probbaly looking at a new boiler as the parts are hard to come by. I have checked the internet and i can source the parts myself for around £80 - so no problem i think. My partner has made several calls to shield today - 1st call - because we haven't had our initial inspection we are not covered at all and besides the parts are hard to come by. I checked the T's and C's and the initial inspection should have been arranged by them within 28 days after the 14 day cooling off period - they have never contacted me. 2nd Call - the engineer is not on call so they can't do anything as they can't get his report and the parts are hard to source so we will probably have to talk to sales for a new boiler 3rd Call - the operative's pc had crashed so we would have to wait for a call back 4th call - (they did call us back) the fault has been ongoing for a while so we are not covered - when queried as the fault is 3 days old - not exactly a long time - we were informed that the leak "could" have been there before so it is our own fault and as the parts are hard to come by we will have to wait for sales to call us as we will have to have a new boiler. When asked when this call might happen we are told that the engineer is no longer on call so he wont be able to have given them his report so they don't know when the call will be. As you can imagine i am beginning to wonder if this protection is really just a way to push the sale of new boilers on customers. I have paid my direct debit, i was told i was covered immediatley and that "even if you call on Christmas day we will send someone to fix your boiler immediatley", all their paperwork goes on about how "SWALEC's shield protection ensures you're never left in the cold" well myself and my 4 children have been in the cold for 3 days now, i have no heating and no hot water and there is snow forecast for tonight and my yougest has a chest infection and is supposed to be kept warm. I am not happy and don't know where to go now?? Can you help??

Asbestos in your boiler according to hydro electric...

Anyone been told by hydro electric that their boiler contains asbestos? I have and they have removed me from the plan. I was with british gas for 13 years and as i have both gas and electric from the hydro they enticed me on to their plan over a year ago. They inspected my system, passed it and took monthly payments for over a year. However 2 weeks ago they came for my annual service and noted a number from my boiler, compared it to a booklet containing many, many models of boilers etc and decided it contained asbestos! The engineer left, did not do the service and now i have been left without cover! Shocking outcome is - MY BOILER DOES NOT CONTAIN ASBESTOS, i have contacted the gas safety register, my boiler manufacturer and the Heath & Safety Executive none of which know anything about a new list of asbestos boilers. If you have been told your boiler is on this list i would like to hear from you. I suspect this may be a method hydro are using to scaremonger people into buying a new boilerand to remove older boilers from their service plans. My advice is stay with british gas and do not take cover with hydro electric, their engineers are not as competent and as well trained as those from british gas.

Potterton Suprima 100 Boiler

Does anyone know anything about a Potterton Suprima boiler problem that makes loud banging noises please? I have been paying for BG home care for over 7 years now and last month when i need a repairt to my boiler carried out they told me that as that boiler is nolonger being supported by them they cannot carryout any repairs or replace it. This is a boiler they have inspected each year and we have made them aware of the rust on the side of the unit. It is this rust that has ceroded away at the boiler and it has started to leak a little bit. If we have been reliant on the expertise at BG to tell us if it needed replacing or not and when we requested to replace it they decide they do not support it any more what can i do. I feel like a mug for paying some much money out to these guys for 7 years, never making a claim and when i needed them they let me down. If this problem has been the same for several years do they not have a right to repair considering they have been inspecting it each year. Any advise on this matter would be most appreciated as BG has now cancelled the policy on the basis they cannot support me any more and returned a cheque for £49.00. However I have been very much let down. To allow for the policy to become active a routine inspection of the boiler and heating systems in your property has to take place. I therefore made the appointment for a morning 9am - 12.00. After waiting in no-one turned up and no apologetic phone call was received. When I phoned them I was told there was a "high volume of work" being a busy time of year - December - I appreciated this, moaned to them about them not contacting me and booked another appointment. This time when no-one turned up I was told there were no engineers avaliable and that "hopefully" someone would turn up. Again, I only found this out by contacting them. I was also told that someone had rang me and I wasn't in! After checking the number it was evident that no call had been made as I had not left the house at all that morning. In the same conversation I was then told there were no engineers in the area, and then finally that "no-one would be avaliable until the new year". Losing patience I made one final appointment. I rang them as the office opened at around 8.00am to confirm my appointment. I was told no engineers were avaliable- evidently, in my opinion they had no intention of sending anyone out, to know this at this time in the morning. I was then told that the engineer in my area was ill and that no-one was avaliable. At this point I said I would have to cancel my policy- "ok" the customer service man replied! How not to feel valued as a customer ! I will be looking elsewhere......

gas heating/power flush

Hi All.my dad in law had blocked pipes in his gas central heating leading from the cold water feed to the pump.British Gas came and replaced the pipe, and they told philip(my dad in law) that he would still need a complete system clean and flush for which thet quoted him £528 plus 5% VAT.can anyone tell me if they feel the extra work is justified as all the radiators still get hot.is this the case of British Gas trying to get more money?appreciate any and all of your comments. Thanks John

Complete Utilities Cover as opposed to Homecare 400

I am totally confused now so I am asking for some advise please? Last year British Gas talked me into increasing my HomeCare Insurance to the full on HomeCare 400 which is supposedly their highest level of care for maintenance and repairs. What I really want to know is do I really need all this cover?? I have had EON cover for 6 months, since we moved into our new house. Previously we've used British Gas, who I actually emailed to say how pleased I was with their service. EON have been awful. We've had 8 call outs, and 13 visits, for our combi boiler. It's hard to get through to their call centre, and when you do, their quickest attendance is a good few days in the future (Lastest breakdown - right now - has been booked in for next Monday - it's currently Tuesday - and we have no heating or water - they are blaming sickness in our area, but it's been this way everytime I've called) When their engineers do attend, they've all seemed generally jaded by EON. They look through the instruction book, and order a part, and leave. This has happened each time. If you chase the parts arrival, it tends to be the following week. If you don't, they don;t call. An exciting recent development has been their new computer system. Twice, since november, I've waited for engineers, and they've not turned up. When calling to check, (10 minute Q) I've been told that the appointment has been booked, but an engineer hasn't been allocated. I've complained, and their complaints dept will not reply. I understand that boilers ae complicated - and I appreciate that you can't always tell what the issue is, but with British Gas, in the previous house, the engineers tended to open the boiler, check it out, and replace parts if they could. If not, they got them quick. They also tried to get it going - EON engineers do not even attempt. Interestingly when you do finally get the engineer to fit the part, he'll report back that he's just there to fit the part, and if it doesn't fix it, you'll have to call the call centre to get another engineer to inspect it. I wish I'd never bothered with them. SOmetimes, paying less is not a good idea. They must have lost £100's on me now...but I'm left with 2 kids, in the middle of winter (it's minus 2 at the min) with no heating or water. And I reckon it'll be that way for at least 10 days. Brilliant.Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can get someone to fix this properly, make a proper complaint, or share their issues?
