It’s a brilliant standby at home if, as happened to me on cue, home broadband packs up. I can do the essentials “surfing” in about 15 minutes which amounts to about 25p. Outside the home it’s just as convenient. However the signal varies wildly from “very poor” to “very good” in the same location at similar times and having a Vodafone mobi one myth I was able to dispel is that the two signals bare any relationship to each other – they don’t. Outside I experimented in different areas including my local shopping centre and a café in particular and it’s just the luck of the draw. A friend reported a similar pattern with T-Mobile. Even with its limitations I’m really pleased with it.

Address to cancel a VM contract by post

Hi I'm moving flats soon but I will be taking out Sky in the new place (as it's a new build development already pre-wired with a communal dish) and so I need to cancel my VM contract in my rented property. My contract was taken out on 7 January 2009 and I'm due to move in the late part of December 2009 so I'm willing to let the contract pan out till 7 January 2010 to meet the 12 month contract term and avoid early charges. However when I look for a postal address I see variations and the posts are quite old and it's hard to locate any on the VM site. Does anyone have the postal address to write my formal notice of cancellation to? I will include details about the 7 January 2010 issue as well. I don't want to email or phone as after my year-long battle with Orange to cancel my phone contract I am adamant that I'll conduct all contract cancellations by recorded delivery post from now on! Plus who has ever heard of a competent phone cancellation service? For the record though I haven't had a problem with the cable internet/tv/phone for the entire year aside from getting random spam calls from a debt agency for someone who I'd never heard of before despite the number being new, but I put them in their place quickly. Internet worked fine although I wish 20MB actually meant 20MB download speed, not 1MB! ............ah well least my gaming pings were great!

Virgin Media Customer Service?

I've had such bad experiences with Virgin Media that I've just made a site to try to inform other customers considering to go with them just how bad they can be. You have nearly reached your credit limit” Apparently there is a credit limit of £250. I pay for the phone line I should be able to use it how I wish and how much I wish. Needless to say I was appalled. I have paid on time and in full by direct debit every month since being with you. I tried to explain to the caller that the reason why I am making all of these phone calls is due to a family crisis in Australia and I need to keep in contact. My daughter’s Boyfriend has suspected lymphoma so obviously I am extremely distressed for them both. After this was explained no exception was taken at all and the fact I will be cut off if I did not pay was repeated. This months bill is due to come out on the 12th for around £89 which of course will be paid so I can still see no reason why there is cause of concern to my account. I have been forced to pay a bill I have not even seen yet! This is totally unacceptable. I am considering going to trading standards with this incident. Later my son rang up and tried to ask some questions. The result was you would not cut off all services just international calls which of course are what I need to make considering the circumstances. You are leaving me no option but to cancel all services due to the service I have received from yourselves. As far as I can see I have been a perfect customer, taking out a reasonable package and paying on time and in full every month.

Virgin Media anygood or what?

We'd be interested to hear from any existing Virgin Media customers as to what they think of the Virgin Media as a broadband / bundled provider. Here's the story : I have been with Virgin Media for many years now - apart from a few teething troubles initially, the service has been without fault. I moved house 6 months ago, to a rented property - without hesitation, transfered the Virgin account. A few more teething troubles and all has been well, nothing to compain about ..... so-far! I am moving home again due to work commitments (friends say I'm part Gypsie!) - Because I am only 6 months into the new 12 month contract, Virgin want to levy a hefty cancellation fee. I cannot transfer the services to my new property, as the Landlord doesn't want to move from the Talk Talk service that he is providing - in addition, I am moving to a non-cabled area, so, as far as I can figure, I would have to move the services from Talk Talk, take out line rental with BT, then transfer the cable services!!!!! - This is never going to go smoothly methinks!!!! To cap it all, BT aren't interested, as this move is only for around 6 months (I've only signed a 6 month lease with the landlord) - then I plan to settle permanently - probably in the same area. I feel stuck here - I'm going to be charged for services I cannot get ! And I am concerned that I may loose services if I start switching things about - I cannot do without internet or phone, my employment depends on it. Given the option, I would transfer the Virgin account without hesitation (better the Devil you know!) but it just doesn't seem possible. Does anyone have any ideas or experience of this situation, and advice would be really appreciated. Thanks

Virgin Media mis-sold a package

Hi, I just wanted to know where I stand on this. About a month ago, I ordered a TV package to add on to my existing broadband I have with Virgin Media. I called several times before making the order as I had a few questions and each time I double checked the quote. However I have just got my bill through and they are charging me more per month than what I was quoted (on more than one occasion). I have since complained to them and they have effectively told me that what I am being charged now is the correct price and what I was quoted was incorrect. Well that's great but they still mis-sold it to me. Also conveniently, as I find with almost every company I have a problem with, they don't have any record of what I was told on the account, despite the fact that I called more than once. I just wanted to know if there was anything I could do other than canceling the package or putting up with this? Is there some kind of regulation to protect consumers when they have been given a quote to stop them getting charged more once they have made the order? Also I am pretty much despondent now with the amount of times I get these problems with companies. I would say about 80% of the companies I deal with I get some kind of problem, which if I had recorded the conversation I would have had concrete proof to show them what I was told. Where do I stand on recording calls to companies? Someone once told me that you have to tell them you're recording the conversation (if you plan on using it as evidence) and they have been trained to hang-up if that's the case. Thanks Nathalie

Complaint about Virgin Media broadband

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience/what is the best I should do now to sort hits out. I signed up for Virgin Media broadband in September (my only option was Virgin, as the previous tenant of my house had Telewest installed and all other providers would have needed a BT line resinstalling for a charge). As I do not need a phone line Virgin offered me £10 a month for Broadband only. An engineer came and fitted a box into the room where my computer is (even at that point Virgin have messed the visit up, promising to ring when he arrives and not doing so, leaving me stranded at work and having to rush home to let the engineer in). After unsuccessful attempts to activate the service, being on the phone for hours to tech support and spending nearly £30! on my mobile calls to Virgin, they said they will get another engineer. Fair enough, he turned up as promised, spent a coupl of hours trying to set things up and no success (modem is not recognised by PC or something along those lines). He said that several other customers had the same problem in the area, and therefore it is nothing to do with the computer - in fact he called someone presumably at Virgin head office and they said apparently the area has run out of IP addresses and someone needs to buy more of those but haven't done this yet (not a techie myself so not sure if anyone knows what I'm talking about). The engineer then said it is out of his hands and until these IP addresses are in place, I won't get a service, it's up to tech support. About a week later I rang them to ask whether anything has been done, and was told they were sorting it and will ring me back. They never did, and I called again, this time got an incredibly unhelpful and rude person who had no idea what I was talking about and proceeded to say it was my PC that was the problem and I should get an engineer to have a look! again!! Nothing seems to be either logged on the system or available to view each time I call, so I had to relay the whoIe story every time I call (spending £££s on my mobile yet again; ironically tech support reimburse you for the calls by putting credit on your account - pointless if you can't get any service anyway!). I asked to speak to her manager and she cut me off!! I then rang customer services and put in a complaint about the whole thing, the person I spoke to seemed helpful enough and said someone will ring me in the next few days. Well did they heck. It's been weeks now, and I am reluctant to try and call myself - as my phone bills have doubled because of their inefficiency. What should I do now, is there any other way to contact someone who can actually help and will know about the problem? Customer services dept at Virgin cannot get in touch with tech support (as in are never able to, so they said, unless in exceptional circumstances - and evidently that doesn't make any difference!) What sort of a company is this I have never come across such a lack of communication, unprofessionalism, and frankly crap customer service. Rant over...oh and they sent a bill to me demanding payment of 15p the other day, after refunding some of the call charges on to my account - the account that has nothing to pay for!

virgin media contract ?

Hi all you Virgin media buffs, Im helping out my daughter with her Virgin media problems and need some basic info. I took a Virgin package (Landline & Broadband) for £15.50 a year back and the minimum contract period of 12 months got over on this January 2009. They have started to charge an additional £5.50 pounds from the following month after the contract got over and (I failed to noticed this earlier as they get the payment automativally through Direct Debit) and I have recently called them and checked about this additonal charge and I was told by the customer service person that I was getting the pacakge on a reduced price of £15.50 as an offer during the contract period and now they are charging the standard charges for the package after the contract period. I was not informed about this when i took the contract and also never got any mail from them informing this before they start to charge and just got the bill with updated charges (which I failed to notice earlier). I never changed by package from the 1st day of service got activated and still continuing with the same package till date Can somebody who is using Virgin services please advice me if this is a normally happens after the end of a contract or I can challenge them ?

Getting a better deal

Hi Just wondered if anyone has had good experiences negotiating a better deal from virgin media i.e better service for less cash but without having to sign up to another 12 months? My partner set up a Virgin Media account for TV, Phone and Internet in July 2008 - he entered his bank details onto the Virgin Media website, we received a contract which he signed and sent off to pay monthly for our bills by direct debit. For six months we revived thank you for your payment letters from Virgin Media. Imagine our surprise on the 7th Jan 2009 when we received a phone call from Virgin stating that the direct debit covering our account was in fact coming out of a complete strangers bank account and Virgin had only become aware of this when the person in question rang up to complain! Virgin accused my partner of putting in fraudulent bank details onto their website, they then went on to inform him that we owed £246.42 in arrears and demanded payment immediately. After speaking to countless people at Virgin they agreed it was there mistake, that we could continue paying future bills by direct debit and pay the arrears via Paypoint with no interest. We thought this matter was getting resolved until 10th Jan 2009 when we received a phone call from the collections department at Virgin who demanded full payment immediately and denied any record of our previously conversation on the system. After being passed around I eventually spoke to a ''Customer Care Manager'' who clearly couldn't care less about customer well being. After initially being somewhat sympathetic she put me on hold and came back with a renewed attitude. Basically she stated it was mine and my partners fault, our previous agreement didn't exist and was not acceptable. and that now our arrears were £282.93 She offered us two options: 1) Pay off the arrears in stages - but in doing so our service would be cut off until the money was paid in full and we would be black listed. 2) Pay off the full amount by Jan 17th 2009 or our services would be cut off and we would be black listed. After crying my eyes out to this so called customer care manager I explained that I couldn't just get £282 just like that and informed her I would have to borrow the money from my parents. She didn't give a toss and we informed her would be back in touch if we could get the money together. Can you imagine my disgust when an hour later the collections department rang to ask if we had got the money and could we pay! Does no one listen in this organisation????? My parents very kindly offered to help us out and I called Virgin Media today (11th Jan 2009) to pay the arrears. I spoke to a lady who informed me that we didn't owe anything!!!!! That we were going to receive a full refund and that the creditors had admitted to making a mistake. The lady in question at Virgin thought that I was the lady whose bank account details had been misused by Virgin Media!!!! How stupid can you get? After explaining to the lady and putting me on hold she finally grasped who I was and said we now owed £285.93. An interest of £3 per day that the arrears were not being paid. Virgin clearly has no idea what they are doing. They have mixed up our bank details with someone else’s and can give us no explanation as to how this happened. The people in the call centre are rude, intimidating and very threatening. Virgin will not accept any responsibility for this! They would not even let us pay back the money in instalments even though the error is theirs! We have taken advice from consumer direct and have written Virgin Media a letter. Be warned Virgin Media could lose your bank details!!!!!!!!

Virgin box connection

I had a second box installed when i signed up. I did the speed test and no surprise that it was well below. My daughter too is having problems, her connection is so slow she has almost given up, apart from wasting time and money on calls. Her contract ends in March, but surely if she is not getting the service she is paying for she should be able to extricate herself, but they will not budge. I would willingly change but can't as it would mean paying BT something like £125 to reclaim my phone line, that is even before I changed to another provider.

More problems cancelling Virgin contract.

Another familiar story here it would seem. I have been with Virgin since the day of the NTL switchover and recently tried to leave. Here's where my problems started, I noticed upon receiving my most recent bill my monthly charge had increased by £5. I was subscribed to the basic phone and TV package and XL broadband and was originally paying £32 per month. My bill had increased to £37 so I gave them a call and the man that answered simply replied that he would change it back to £32 and credit my account with £13 to cover the extra I had being paying. Very decent of them you may well be thinking. Well no actually, 8 days after that phone call I again contacted them to enquire how much it would be to add on just sky sports one to my package. I was quoted a further £24 just for that one channel. Obviously I declined to pay that much extra for just one channel as that is a ridiculous charge. After discussing various other packages with the Virgin sales man it became apparent that they could not (or would not) match or get anywhere near similar packages offered on sky, even if I dropped my broadband down to 10MB to put it at a similar level to skys 8MB they could do nothing. I decided that enough was enough and I would hand in my months notice and leave. Upon requesting to do this I was informed my original phonecall (where I questioned the extra £5 charge) I had unwillingly been entered into another 12 month contract! At no point was this mentioned to me by anybody. Obviously by now I was getting pretty annoyed and requested to speak to whoever was in charge. A lady who was manager came on the line and I explained all of the above and to cut a long story short she would do nothing except tell me to follow Virgins complaint process on their website. I have emailed my complaint through and are awaiting their response. I'm guessing ffrm other similar stories on here they will be requesting I pay a £250 fine for leaving a contract I never actually agreed to! I will not be paying this I will be onto trading standards and OFCOM and I will point out how many others have been put through the same hassle. Anybody out there reading this and considering joining Virgin give it a miss until they can find some staff that dont volunteer you into expensive packages probably just to get their commission!

Cancelling Virgin Media - Moving House?

Hiya, just wondering if anyone here can help me. :) Okay, so basically, I've moved house, (quite unexpectedly) and I still have my old services back there. Now, the new place has VirginMedia as well, and I want to get rid of my old service. If I move to a place which is already connected to Virginmedia, then Virgin can't provide me with my service anymore and thus they have to contractually cancel it, no? If this is true, what is the easiest way to cancel VM while still in the 12 month period? Is there anyone specifically you can write to or complain to so you can be taken off? Or do I just give an outside-range postcode or say the move isn't final? I've heard of some people getting off the contact by saying the move isn't final and VM just cancelling it there and then. Any help anyone? :)

Virgin Broadband - M or L? I find L is rather expensive for what it is (compared to offers from Tiscali for example..) but I need a wireless router, which would be free with L and £40 with M. Three PCs/laptops will be using this connection, is it better to go for L in that case anyway? Is the difference between M and L very noticeable? Not only did they screw me continuously on my TV, the best example of which being failing to broadcast a pay per view premium sports event then failing to air it due to technical difficulties, but my internet is now a whole world better. I'm paying no more, and my new isp have provided fresh equipment (modem, etc) so everything is squeaky clean and cool. Much more then Virgin ever did, not that they're equipment didn't work, but they failed to supply that too, ever. And I don't get abused as an existing customer while fresh blood is given preferential treatment. It's so refreshing it's untrue. For those of you who are looking to leave Virgin - I went to Supanet.com

Signed up for £9 broadband, trying to charge me more..

Hey, So last month i signed up to the offer virgin media had £9 a month for the first 12 months, 12 month contract....confirmed the ammount over the phone.. GREAT!! Or so i thought... My first bill has come through and they are charging me £11 a month (£22 in total, 2 months up front) So i rang them and they said there is nothing on my account saying im getting it for £9. It says im down for £11 a month. Now the offer has gone from the website and i can only find it on 3rd party site's, which leave's me on no leg to stand on cos its not on the virgin site anymore.(anyone have a screenshot of this offer?) Someone from virgin sales was suppose to ring me yesterday but hasnt. Just wondered where i stand, i would like to be prepared for when i call them again. Can i legally tell them to collect the modem and end my contract, i will of course pay them for one months usage. All we had was a verbal agreement over the phone. Thanks mark
