AOL the following month rang saying they couldnt get money from my account "of course u cant" i said " i am no longer with u " full of apologies they hang up. this happened a few times. i now have a debt collectors letter in front of me demanding £145.. ive tried calling aol a few times, they say all there calls are recorded yet they cant find the one which we said" no we dont want it thanx but no thanx" they want e mails of confirmation that i signed up to something that i never did, god knows what i should do, any suggestions anyone ???? besides paying !!!

Thoughts on AOL

We'd be interested to hear from AOL customers as to what you think about their current services. The contract is 24 months, so just about half way through. It's about £35 a month, excluding BT line rental, so not cheap. We moved home at the start of April this year, and even though we informed AOL of our new details before the move, they have failed to provide any broadband service for the last 11 weeks, and inform me it shall be another 2 weeks before we are connected !! As AOL have failed to provide a reasonable service for an extended period, am I within my rights to cancel my contract without further charge? All I can find in my terms and conditions is how to cancel my contract by paying a further £420 !! Any legal or contractual advice most welcome. Rang aol up immediately and it seems they only cancelled the account 7 days ago for some reason,i advised of my notification and cancellation of direct debit. Because it was such a small sum they wrote it off but i reckon they would have tried court action had the bill been higher. Another reason never to use these shysters ever again.

aol and my route to the mental hospital

early this year i decided to get broadband. a friend recommended aol, so i rang and was promised the earth. after two weeks of waiting from my start date i phoned there expensive help line to see what the problem was. i was told i had set my computer up wrong! so i paid for someone to check it for me only to be told i`d done it right. another week went by and still no bb. so on the 21st feb i cancelled my order, i was told my bb line would be clear in 10-14 days. yeaterday my bb line became clear. inbetween i have been told 5 different stories, hung up on twice, spent 180 mins on hold, and passed from dept to dept. and to top it off they then tried to tell me i owed them £6.89 FOR BB I NEVER GOT. i will never go near aol as long as i live.....

AOL and their communication problem!

My XH tried to set himself up on broadband and decided to use his old AOL member name. That reactivated the other names attached to that account, one of which was my webmail. Every time I tried to contact AOL, I got garbage back. I kid you not. Prefilled, standard form email, in a really kooky format, telling me again and again to call the very expensive helpline, even when I explained that I cannot afford to do so. I gave up in the end but I was appalled. I still get emails about what is now his account; surely that's a DPA breach? I switched from AOl to Orange as they offered me free BB with my phone. I'd had no complaints about AOL prior to that, but after this fiasco, I wouldn't go near them again. I have a splitter plugged into my phone line at the moment (one for phone and the other phone line extenstion cable running upstairs to my PC for dial up). My question is in regards to the broadband filter? - I have been told that that filter needs to be plugged diretcly into the phone line? But I want to know if can I plug the filter into the other end of the phone extension upstairs so I can just run the network cable from the router to my PC, and leave the phone line extension in? or would it be best just to installed another phone socket upstairs near the PC? Thanks.

Router question

I moved from Orange broadband to AOL recently and im happy with the service, but when i was using the livebox i could always get 54mbps and it always stayed like that. Since moving to AOL the router they gave me (speedtouch) for free only manages to get up to 24mbps , it also sometimes drops to 5.5 or 11. This is stopping me from viewing videos on youtube etc.... My question is ..- should i get a better router like a netgear or linksky? what do you think? Thanks.

great service off them

just phoned them up on the off chance of getting a deal off them i told them i was going over to sky after bieng with them since 2001 told me they would give me 8mbs for £9.99a month with the next six free if i did not go ,i was paying £19.99 a month guess what i did not go....

AOL & MAC code

im thinking of combining broadband , phone and sky tv together with sky,, but i need a mac code from aol,, ive heard a few stories of how once you ask for it, aol tend to either cancel your contract which then means you dont have a MAC code or they give it you but make the bt line unable to connect to any other broadband service use it.. anyone else had these problems with aol..

Problems with new AOL webmail

Since AOL launched it's new webmail suite we have been completely unable to access any webmail using IE7, IE6, Safari or Mozilla Firefox.
