They both want life cover and accident insurance but at the moment can not afford the premiums so I said I would pay for them. They think £100000.00 life cover would be enough but are not sure about levels of cover for accident insurance. I said I would cover the insurance premiums for 10 years after which time they can review levels and pay their own premiums. Is there a cheap health insurance available for them, or even better, a combined health, life and accident insurance we could consider. I also have a 30 year daughter who has not bothered to take out any life or accident insurance. Is it cheaper to have all family members covered under one policy ? The policy is administered by AXA. I took the option to cover all outgoings as well as my loans/cards so I took out cover of £1755 per month covering me for accident, sickness, unemployment, etc. It has a 60 day qualification period and after that it paid out 30 days after any claimable event. On Monday morning, I got a letter from them telling me that from 1st May a) they are increasing the deferreded period from the current 30 days to 60 days, so now I would not get any money from them until the 91st day after I became unemployed or sick, etc.. b) they are reducing my monthly benefit from £1755 to £1500 c) they are increasing my premiums from £78.98 a month to £110.25 a month I really feel like I have been ripped off! This has been mis-sold in my opinion as I have paid for a 2 month qualification period, only to have the benefits decreased significantly and the premiums hiked by nearly 40% not long after I am actually able to claim. I really do hope that I never need to claim on this type of policy, but it seems I am being expected to bail out the losses and bad debts of AXA. I am not a happy bunny and have lodged an official complaint with them, requesting that they refund monies taken under false pretences, but they have so far refused. They say that the policy is a 30 day policy which automatically renews, so they can change the cover and premiums by giving me 30 days notice. It beats me though how a 30 day policy can have a 60 day qualification period. An interesting combination! As someone who held a senior management position in the Post Office several years ago, I am amazed that the organisation allows its name to be associated with this type of product!

Loss of earnings

Would it be usual for a small business to have an insurance policy to cover them for loss of income and to compensate staff wages due to natural flooding which resulted in damage to the premises and loss of electricity meaning that the business had to close for a day?

Direct Line wont look at wifes medical history....

My wife has applied for a life policy with Direct Line. As usual there were dozens of questions to answer and my wife is fairly sure that all seems ok. I pointed out to my wife that insurance companys will do anything to catch you out on a minor detail should a claim arise and to be extra careful when answering the questions. My wife has no significant problems that she is aware of but like many people I would imagine she cannot remember every single time she has been to the doctors in the last five years or what for. To me some of the questions were worded in such a way that unless you know your medical history inside out then you could get caught out. To be extra sure my wife phoned Direct Line and asked that they do request her medical history to be 100% sure so that they could not say that she hadnt disclosed anything at all in the application. Direct Line refused and said that unless she had an illness then they would not do it, I wonder if they would be so casual in the event of a claim ! It seems obvious to me that should they read her medical history and accept her then they are duty bound to pay out should the worst happen as everything has then been disclosed and this is what they are trying to avoid. This is something that worrys my wife and myself as we have four young children and a mortgage to think about. Basically does anyone know how we can get the insurance company to read my wifes medical history so that they can never say that they werent told all of the facts ? Thanks.

Recommended Insurances

Hi All, Myself and my fiancee have been looking at our financial situation a little more closely now and are really wondering what (if any) insurances would be sensible to look into taking up (besides car insurance of course) Currently we're both in full time employment, and have a mortgage. The company are changing the shifts from two to just a day shift out of are department of five workers they are reducing it to two and we have to reply for are jobs, they are offering redundancy or a different job but with a big pay cut we both can’t work days. My question is would it be compulsory redundancy or voluntary because they are offering a different job, I have mortgage and loan protection but will not pay out if it was voluntary redundancy

life insurance

Hi Emma, How many life insurance policies can I have? Since 1999 we have been paying £61.00 per month for £60,000 cover. (we have never needed to make a claim - thank goodness) Zurich have recently reviewed our plan and we received a letter from them outlining 2 options Option 1. To keep our current level of cover at £60,000 for a further ten years but to secure the current level of cover we need to increase our payment from £61.00 to £99.00 per month. or Option 2. Not to change and keep our monthly payment of £60.00 but the cover will reduce from £60,000 to £24,551. To us the increase seems a bit hefty. As we have had the cover for so long we don't want to be without it, but we need some advice before we decide what to do. Can you advise how we can bring down the premium without losing or compromising on cover or can you suggest another way forward. Thank you
