As you are already with Natwest go online and try their Advantage Gold account. It does have a fee but there are lots of benefits, e.g holiday insurance, breakdown cover etc. I had a Step Ac and that's what I did to get a normal a/c with cheque book etc. (I do use all the benefits to make it worthwhile!) You may or may not start off with a solo card but after a while you can ask for Servicecard.
