Thought I would share my experience with you
I decided to move to sky broadband from BT at the start of August, after registering I put the order in place on the 31st of August, on the same day I requested BT to hand over the line to Sky (they gave me a MAC code)
I first received an activation date stating the 09/09, my kit arrived and I waited with anticipation, the date came and went and the broadband didn't work. I called Sky support (30 min queue time), they told me there was a new activation date, the 15/09, again this came and went.
Again I called, again I queued (it got better, only 25mins this time!!!) - I was given another date 21/09, guess what this came and went (spot the pattern?)
I called Sky again to see why they keep giving me these dates and they (provisioning?) explained that the line was still with BT, I called BT and they confirmed that it was not, they checked and no order (from Sky, or anyone else) had been placed on the line, they even placed a test order on the line which worked fine.
At this point I was not happy, I had gone over a month with no internet and no reassurances that it would be sorted, I was left with no choice, I cancelled the service (I was hoping for an argument about signing up for 12 months so that I could vent my anger.)
On a side note, when I signed up, Sky assured me that I could expect download speeds of between 8.5 and 16 meg, I now find this hard to believe as all other providers can only offer a maximum of 4.5 meg.
Using this site I chose another broadband provider, tiscali, at £17.99 a month, I have received an email today stating that I should now have internet connectivity, so I'm going to check tonight.
I think the moral of the story is, "don't move to Sky broadband" - if you can call that a moral?
