I agree with you ATM! Which is why I personally, have always distributed my little stash in the best rated accounts I could find, plus a few Premium Bonds. I then lived through the Icesave fiasco, but am still on the lookout for the best, but safe deals.

But I was answering MADMANDY's safety question, and Premium Bonds are definitely safe.

The annoying thing about some bank accounts, is that their interest rates have quietly dropped soon after opening the account. I have even had them drop before the bank in question has issued me with the necessary passwords etc. And in this present climate it is even worse, with some so-called Savings accounts bottoming out to beneath the likely earnings on modest premium bond wins.

It's a jungle out there, and we savers are the losers in all this. We just have to do what we can, and hope for the best.
