Totally NOT the case, even a month ago. The price was about $1.61 a litre when I was there in March and they're now looking at $2.00 a litre within weeks if not sooner. The government has backed off on threatened tax hikes, probably to stave off the possibility of insurrection. New Zealand is a high-cost society and getting worse. If you go there to live, it's for the scenery, not for the wealth.

I should know - I'm a Kiwi and lived there for 45 years!
