    Saverdave:

Perhaps foolishly, I thought that I might get a serious reply to my post about precisely what the Government guarantee covers and whether NR are being irresponsible in allowing people to think that it covers reinvested moneys.  But all I get is rants about the Daily Mail and Daniel306.

You said it in your own post. Anyone who keeps their money in Northern Rock gets 100% of it back if it goes under as long as it was in before the guarantee was put in place. As always with money it's "buyer beware" and if you don't look further into what you think is the case then whose fault is it? From what I can see all parties involved have been upfront about what the guarantee involves so any "implied" guarantee is simply what the customer wants it to be...... At the end of the day I doubt NR will go under now so it's rather a non-issue.

Whether or not you acknoweledge it there is a culture in this of believing whatever paper you read every morning. The papers have whipped this thing up to be bigger than it actually is. Which is why even with a 100% guarantee there are still queue's outside some NR branches because the fear that these media outlets have created cancels out any rational thought people may have.
