Re: No claims with new insurer

    Bristol:

Hi.  I had the first accident for about 15 years in January.  I had protected NCD, so when my policy came up for renewal my insurer didn't put the price up (in fact it went down -- go figure!).

Now, I've just bought a new car and my existing insurer won't cover it as it's not garaged.  So... when I apply for insurance with another company, do I have no claims or not?!

    Any advice gratefully received!

    Hi Bristol,

Yes... you have as many years No Claims Bonus as your current insurer will release. As you had protected NCD, you will not have lost these after one claim.

However, if the claim has not yet been closed this must still be declared as pending until such time the insurer informs you all claims have been settled. If it has been settled then this should be told to the insurer as 'Fault' or 'Non-fault' accordingly.

If your insurance company will not cover the new vehicle due to it not being garaged, is this a high performance or a high valued vehicle? If it is, avoid cheap tacky insurers that are more interested in quantity and not quality. You know the ones!!
