One of the administrators from Deloitte called me back today. They are still hoping to find a buyer for the bank. I brought up with him, that ourselves and other EU residents have been paying 20% tax on our interest on the accounts. No-one appears to have brought up this fact. The retention tax is split as follows: 25% goes to the Guernsey treasury and 75% goes to the Treasury of the EU country of residence, in my case, the UK. I called the customer service centre of the UK scheme, and they didn't seem to be aware of or have considered this fact. I was told to e-mail them as it was something their legal team needed to investigate. I have done so, but I haven't had a reply yet. Tomorrow morning I am going to talk to Harriet Harman MP (Resident's Surgery) about the forgotten Landsbanki Guernsey Savers. Landsbanki Guernsey appears to have under 1% of the number of account holders that Icesave had, and therefore the cost of rescuing the Guernsey savers would be smalll in comparison to Icesave. I live in London. Its great to see the community spirit that has developed on this blog.
