At present Santander offer a distinct £50000 compensation under the FSCS scheme to an Alliance & Leicester account holder, as opposed to the £50000 compensation which has to be shared between an individual's other accounts with Santander trading names eg Abbey, Bradford & Bingley. Will this change in 2010 when the Alliance & Leicester trading name will be changed to Santander? And if so, how do account holders stand who have existing long term savings accounts with Alliance & Leicester which they committed to on the basis of the seperate £50,000 compensation protection, please?
