A while ago I posted a question about this got some good advice but things have moved on somewhat so I would like some more of your time if possible guys. My partner a while ago got a letter from her credit card company saying they were dropping her limit from 9000 to 1200 which she thought was odd.she decided to pay off the balance of that card and change companies but got declined. This rang alarm bells so she checked her credit file ( experian ) and found a default on there from orange even though she had never had a phone or a contract with them. She called them and they investigated the matter and they basically said it was her , the sim card was posted to our address and by checking the numbers dialed it had been ringing other members of our household ( we are on the orange network ) To cut a long story short her daughter ( who was at uni in London ) was at our house when the sim was delivered and automatically changed it to her uni address , also she used her own bank details. As far as my partner was concerned she didn't receive any correspondence from Orange in the few months as it was all going to London and not here , as she said if it had of done it would of rung alarm bells straight away they print theit logo on the evelopes. Incidentally before she found out it was her daughter she did report it to the police as possible fraud. ( the last we heard from them ! )
After more phone calls to orange they informed her the debt had been sold and we had to deal with that company , she did and paid it in full so the default will shortly show as satifsfied. It was £280. The annoying thing is orange refuse to move the default to her daughters name , she wrote a letter to them admitting that she had commited the fraud and that she was willing to accept all responsability for her actions , my partner sent an accompanying letter explaining everything for the umpteenth time aswell with all the information she could. Well the very last phone call she made to orange they said that they will only review this if my partner contacts the police and gets her daughter prosecuted. I notice they said review and not remove the default aswell !
God sorry , I did go on but I guess you need the story to be able to help ! Are orange in the right to ask us to do this or should it be a matter for them to deal with , after all it was orange that she defrauded not my partner. We are considering taking legal advice but I thought I woudl run it by you fantastic guys first !
thanks in advance for you time
