    Buying back my claim

    In February 2006, another driver took the back bumper off my car, I later found that his details were false and unregistered.
    I asked Direct Line if I could buy back the claim so that I keep my no claims bonus, they agreed and said they would send me the bill as soon as they get it from the repair shop.
    This bill never arrived, I contacted Direct Line regularly, they unsuccessfully chased it up a number of times.
    Direct Line wrote to me stating that as they have not received a bill, they have assumed that I have settled it already and have cancelled the claim and my No Claims bonus is still intact, which is great, however, I haven't paid a penny to anyone and the bill was for £780.
    My question for anyone that can help is, will this come back to bite me in the rear end later, could it possibly affect my no claims bonus later on ?
