When you get a bill that does not closely correspond with the reading on the meter, simply read the meter and send in your own proper meter reading, asking for a correct revised bill to be sent back to you.

When you get the revised bill check that the reading on the bill is the same as the one you supplied to them, that way you know you are actually paying the proper amount for the gas you have consumed, I do this and never accept over estimated bills whether they claim to be estimated or not.

keep a close check on your meter also.

This all started last year with my mum and seems to be spreading around the family. Each are getting a gas bill that claims not to be estimated however are well over the meter reading. The latest is for my dad whose bill cliams he has used nearly 1000 units but its only actually about 35 units - the bill is for about £250 rather than about £2. How can they keep getting away with it????

It took me mum about 4 months to get hers sorted from last year and she ended up having to pay the false bill to stop the baliffs!!!
