Re: BT Broadband - Be careful when you move!

God, your experience reminds me of my own. My problems started when I moved flats (same property just differet flats). Took them 5 weeks to transfer my phone number because some moron forgot to log my need and after waiting 3 weeks i phoned them only to find out they had no idea i was waiting for it.

Anyway, once this was settled I phoned them and asked for higher speed ( i was on 2 mb at that time). They said they couldn't do it. Ok then, i shopped around, found sky and decided to go with them. I phoned BT and asked for my MAC. When they heard I want to switch they said they can offer me 8 mb speed at the price as before !. So i said wow ok rhen, let's go for it. Since they tried to upghrade my line everything went dead. My connection dropped from 2mb to 10k (yes 10 k !!!)  and it went like that for weeks and weeks in which time i was on the phone countless times with them. When I couldn't take it anymore I told them that's it ... I am switching. funny thing was they said now that I changed my speed I had to pay them for 12 months of contract and then I could have my MAC ! Took several heated conversations with them to make them realise it wasn't my bloody fault and the guy who offered me the upgrade knew very well my line would not support that speed but went ahead with it anyway/

When i finally got rid of them I promised I will never ever go back to BT. Unfortunately my phone line is still with them and the service as get is just as bad as the broadband one. So far they took money from my account twice , over £100 pounds each time and took me weeks and weeks of waiting until i got it all back. So of course I cancelled my direct debit with them. You're not getting your hands on my money again !

Re: BT Broadband - Be careful when you move!

Thanks Shebar2 I was starting to feel a little lonely, sorry to hear about your problem.Have you got BB? Unfortunately the notes they keep are not that detailed and when different people read them they get a different picture. The questions and answers are all scripted most of the time. Ask to speak to a manager if you are not happy with their response. Fortunately or unfortunately with me I am at the stage where I have a dedicated carer (!) who is familiar with my case. But to be honest though I think everyone in their customer service centres know me by now. All I can advise is that if you have any more problems keep your own notes and the names of the people you are talking with.

To give you and other readers an update I have just had my latest review (now into its 11th week) and was told that they will not be supplying me with BB because it would be too costly and they would be closing my case. After I had a rant at them they decided to keep my case open but they still do not guarantee that I will get it. I shall wait and see what they come up with tomorrow and take it from there. I will not let it drop and I will probably send another letter to the Chairmans office (anyone who would like the address please get in touch or direct phone numbers if you would like them) if I get no joy, which to be honest is not expected. Like you I to do not have the luxury of cable and they have me over a barrel. But they are denying me the right to have BB and if this a legal argument I will use it against them. Like you I hate them, they do not care. We are only small fry they make billions. As old Wolfie used to say ' Power to the people'!!!

Re: BT Broadband - Be careful when you move!

I've been there big time!!! A few months ago I spent every single evening on the phone to BT - only to tell the full tale to yet another person all over again - and this went on for months - every single night logging the same complaint. Hours and hours of my life wasted away. Wouldn't you think that someone would make some notes on their screen so that the next person can tell what's been going on? Not BT. I just hate them - if I could move completely away from BT I would do - but unfortunately I do not live in a cabled area - so I have to rely on them for my line rental.

BT are too big to care about any complaints - something needs to change big time - everyone who ever mentions BT has always got a terrible tale to tell - it's a disgrace!

I feel all mad all over again now!

BT Broadband - Be careful when you move!

I moved home on 15th May 07 and was told by BT that BB would be available at my new address and that I would be reconnected on the 22nd May. 11 weeks down the line and I still do not have BB. I have written 2 letters (1 to the chairman), spent hours on the phone talking to god knows how many people, not only here in this country but also to their call centre in India. They have lied (told me that BB was now available on more than 1 occasion and also told me that it was the council holding up the work even though BT hadn't even applied to do any), mislead (told me that BB is available at my new address, but in fact it isn't as my line does not support data transfer) told me on 2 occasions that I have a shared line (but I am still not sure if I have) I have been referred to the higher complaints level on 3 occasions where 2 people told me that they would be dealing with my case and seeing it through to the end, they actually didn't and just disappeared somewhere! I had a reply from the chairmans executive (had to pay the postage on the reply by the way as BT hadn't put any postage on it!) and was told that they would be looking into my case but am yet to be convinced by this. I have had 3 review dates with my next one being this Wed (8th). I have recently been informed that I may not be able to have BB (even though my neighbours have it) as it may cost too much. I could rant on forever about this but I hope by now you all get the picture about BT. Beware - don't assume that when you move your new premises will be able to receive BB even if they tell you that it can.
