    Re: Backpacking insurane

Annual Multi-Trip products come in varying shapes and sizes. Things to look for in your circumstances are the maximum single trip limt (many are limited to around 31 days but you should be able to find one that covers for around 100 days). Some policies may restrict the total length of time that you can spend outside the UK throughout the 12 month period.

If you know that you will be going to Worldwide destinations during the course of the year then it would probably be best to buy a policy valid for all destinations now as upgrading from Europe only during the course of the year could cost more.

In respect of the camera you will not need to cover this seperately unless the value exceeds the Single Article Limit on the policy. Generally the policy limit will be between £150 to £300 but can go higher. If this is not sufficient cover then the company providing insurance may be able to increase the limit for this item. Alternatively if you reside in a property with Home Contents insurance then you may already be covered for this item when you take it away. However, if they do provide cover then you 3 month trip may be more than the agreed duration on that policy but could be worth checking.

Cannot recommend any specific company but if you do not find an appropriate company here on MSM then check the search engines for 'Annual Multi-Trip Insurance' you should find something suitable there. Of course an Insurance Broker might be able to help you as well.

    Good luck

    Re: Backpacking insurane

Sorry I just have a similar query and thought  I would tag onto this thread.  I'm also after mulit-trip but longer trips as well (I'm going away in September for 3 mths and will be visiting multiple countries) and will be doing more trips over the next 12 mths. Does it usually work out cheaper to buy a year's worth rather than a new policy each year? What if the destinations vary - eg. this time Europe, but future trips US or Asia?

The other question I had was with regard to my digital SLR camera - will I need to cover this separatly with most policies?

And any suggestions of reliable insurance providers would be great!

    Re: Backpacking insurane

There are lots of (better) insurance policies available through local insurance brokers. Bear in mind that the policies shown on this site are geared for cheapness and that usually means higher excesses and lower benefits.

With regard to medical conditions, if you have any, you should contact medical screening lines - your broker can advise you of the telephone numbers of each insurer.

    Backpacking insurane

I'm going abroad for a year for a combination of studying and travelling. Mainly based in S.E. Asia. The study part is covered by insurance provided by the University. Want I just need is backpackers insurance. I've used the search facility on the site for extended stay travel insurance. Just want to check if there are any other options? Maybe some of the insurance companies are not part of the comparison search?

Also, what's the procedure to make sure all current/pass medical conditions are declared and factored in the final policy - going away for a year need to make sure everything is sorted before I leave.

    Thanks.
