    Re: Risk free Life Assurance

Once you have got your medical recods complete the form.

The doctor won't complete any questions for you I shouldn't think, but your idea of stapling the med records to the app is a good one.

If the Ins Co have any further queries they will write to the doctor and ask any questions at thier own cost, or get a medical done at their own cost.

    Re: Risk free Life Assurance

ty4that, thanks for taking the time to reply to my question. I asked for my medical records on Friday afternoon before seeing your post, hopefully it'll all go to plan but if they don't give me a copy of the records i'll still have the option of talking over some of the application questions with the doctor as you did.  Both you and Adrian mentioned brokers ?  Is a broker the same thing as an independant financial advisor, and is there an advantage in using a broker over just going to the idol or cavendish and getting a form posted to me ?

    Thanks, Chris.

    Re: Risk free Life Assurance

Adrian, thanks for the advice. Since reading your response I have handed in a written request for my medical records to my GP surgery (the receptionist said I had to submit a written request to get them).  She also said that if I wanted a doctor to answer some questions on my behalf they would do it for a small fee.  I intend to fill in the application myself using the records and then get the doctor to fill in any blanks.  I may even staple my whole medical record to the back of my application and then once insured just forget about it, anyway that's he plan.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Re: Risk free Life Assurance

Oh good, now Adrian's spoken I was of the same mind Xrys. I went to see my GP and told him the concern. He wriggled and said he couldn't really say. So I said ok I'll put in a request for my records at which he blanched. He then became more amenable and gave me guidance but it took a little effort on my part and discomfort on his. I then did my best with the form and said so when I floundered - if I couldn't answer a question, I didn't and said why not and said it must be read with the covering letter to my broker. I told my broker I didn't know how to declare fully, better than I had and would he double check the form and let me know exactly what extra was needed. I told him about the GP meeting and my willingness to let the insurer have my medical records. My broker okd my effort, the insurer saw eveything and insured me.

    Hope this is helpful.

    Re: Risk free Life Assurance

I can think of two or three methods of doing this.

The full medical is one approach, but I think you'd end up doing this privately and  the cost through BUPA is £300 or so.

Secondly, you should be able to get hold of your medical file from your doctor which will make answering the questions easier.

Thirdly, life brokers have access to life insurance where the health questions are answered over the telephone to outsourced underwriters. Having said that, alot of brokers avoid it, because the commission is reduced as the costs are higher, but in general the system is good. The telephone calls are recorded, meaning that there is no wriggle room for you nor the insurer. This may allay your fears, especially in conjunction with part 2.

    Hope this helps

    Risk free Life Assurance

Does anyone know of any Life Assurance companies that for a fee, will thouroughtly check out your medical history (via a doctor's report or an actual copy of your medical records) prior to providing you with a Life Assurance policy.  I have nothing to hide but am worried about missing something minor on an application form. As I don't trust these companies not to try and weasel their way out of a claim I would be willing to pay £100 or so for them to do all the the checks they want prior to a policy being provided. All I want is peace of mind which is what a policy should provide.
