Re: Notice of sum in arrears

Make a complaint and if MBNA cannot resolve within 8 weeks take it to the Financial Ombudsman (FOS)

If you closed the account, then them adding £1.20 interest two days later is totally unfair.

I think it is possible that the FOS would rule in your favour and require MBNA to remove the black mark on your credit record. This is on the basis that registering the arrears for £1.20 in the way that they did, is totally unfair.

I would not be happy. I am pretty sure, that in the circumstances of default, they should also post the default notice to your last known address and not to just email it.

    Notice of sum in arrears

    Hi,

Back in November I over paid my outstanding credit card balance (Bank of America), towards the end of November I closed the account, as I was in credit I was refunded the balance.

Naively I assumed closing your account there would be a final settlement figure, and that was it.

Yesterday I received a "Notice of sum in arrears", after speaking to the MBNA, I was informed that I had incurred £1.20 interest on the account for the months of December and January, the interest was payable 2 days after I closed the account.

MBNA tell me that as my monthly statements were sent to my email address, which my SPAM filter took care of, I can not challenge this black mark with the registered credit reference agencies.

Is there anything I can do ?

Obviously I've fallen foul of the system.
