Re: Why does MSupermarket results differ to Energy Helpline?

    Hi Graeme

    Ok thanks for explaining.

Hmmm, I thought that I had refreshed the list and scrolled way down to see an OVO product,
but then again, perhaps I didn't - I cant clearly remember to be honest. But as for MDD - I always input MDD, and did for the energy helpline site.

Anyway I tried it today on MS and indeed OVO is now clearly at the top, with now first utility moving ahead of NPOWER.

Leaving Energy Helpline out of the picture, I'm still left wondering why all of the figures have been drastically reduced today on MS when I input the same details
    - e.g.
Two days ago on MS : "NPower GoFIx 10 = £261.42" and today "NPower GoFIx 10 = £162.46...

I take it the team made changes here?

Anyway - I dont want to ponder on this further - just want to know my best option really. :-)

    Thanks!
    MM

Re: Why does MSupermarket results differ to Energy Helpline?

    Hi MM,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The team have been running further tests and I was awaiting the results.

On your screenshot of our price listings, there’s a box on the RH side of the page that has 2 buttons:

    • Show me tariffs I can apply for via moneysupermarket.com

    And:

    • All tariffs on the market

The second box is selected, but underneath is a button which says ‘Refresh’. I’m just wondering if you definitely clicked ‘refresh’ selected the button? Pressing ‘refresh’ brings up the OVO Energy tariff.

With regard to the price differences, it’s our understanding that Energy Helpline ask you on the first/2nd page about your current payment method eg: monthly direct debit (MDD) or ‘pay on receipt of bill’. I have just run a quote on their site for both MDD and ‘Pay on receipt of bill’. MDD payment results are the same as our site, but ‘payment on receipt of bill’ does bring up different prices. We run quotes based on MDD – as we always recommend you pay by MDD to get the best prices. I believe EH do this because they calculate the discounts differently – either they are applied yearly – ‘on receipt of bill’ – or monthly – when the MDD is fulfilled.

I hope that helps explain the differences – it’s the calculations based on your payment method and estimated usage. If you need any further help, don’t hesitate to drop me a line or give our Energy team a call on 0845 345 1296 – they’ll be very happy to help.

Also, do take into account that prices are being reduced at the moment. This article by our team of experts may help with your decision making: British Gas and SSE cuts prices.

    Thanks,

Re: Why does MSupermarket results differ to Energy Helpline?

    Thanks ModernMan,

The team here are still trying to replicate your issue. Could you drop me an email at the address below please with the details you entered? It'll help them identify your quote and see where the issue lies.

I absolutely agree that the huge array of tariffs, products and price changes - plus the regional variations that exist - make life extremely difficult. The price changes and fluctuations (today is not exception!) mean that it's very important to keep on top of what you're paying for gas and electricity - much like it's important to keep an eye on the interet you're paying on your credit card, or the rate of return you receive on your savings account.

Please drop me an email with your details and they'll be happy to take a look and give you the clarity and consistency.

    Many thanks,

Re: Why does MSupermarket results differ to Energy Helpline?

    Hi Graeme,

    Thanks for replying, it's appreciated.

It would be great to get some clarity and consistency on this.

As the news has been reporting lately, the public are already plagued with a blinding array of energy products,
so we rely on comparison sites like MoneySupermarket to filter out the noise and show the best products - so
to have consistency - OR at the very least clear indications of what is and isn't included in the savings would
    be really helpful.

    Anyway thanks again for investigating.

    Best

Re: Why does MSupermarket results differ to Energy Helpline?

    Hi ModernMan,

Rest assured, I've already asked our energy team to look into this and naturally, I'll let you know their repsonse as soon as I have it.

I'm not an expert, but I think - and will confirm or correct this later - that the differences are to do with the calculations made around seasonality and estimated energy usage. I'll let you know in reply to this post as soon as I have more details.

If you'd like to speak to our team, they'll be more than happy to take you through it: 0845 345 1296.

    Thanks,

Re: Why does MSupermarket results differ to Energy Helpline?

—> Right, well seeing as no one has replied to this post yet, I decided to speak with Energy Helpline...

They say that it's possible that Money Supermarket may have omitted certain costs from their quoted savings; possibly that they may have included savings from an 'end of year' discount. Or of course that MS simply haven't updated their site yet.

Energy helpline also say that if you are putting in all the same details in on any comparison site, then the prices should match up on the same deals.

Would an Money Supermarket Expert care to comment?

    Thanks!

Why does MSupermarket results differ to Energy Helpline?

    Hi there,

like many, I am looking to change my dual fuel supplier; I have put the exact same details into various
    comparison sites however...

I looked at http://www.energyhelpline.com/ , which I take to be the most unbiased of the comparison sites...

anyway their results seem to show far lower savings than that of say Money Supermarket...?

Is it that MSupermarket can offer cheaper version of this product? -If so, where are the savings met?

    Am I missing something?

Take a look at this screenshot:
