a bit late, but you might consider using a specialist FX broker like CaxtonFX? They usually have the best rates for international transfers (much better than banks or credit card companies)

You can also consider a stocks & shares ISA. The purple "money" tab at the top will help you look at some other options.

In my opinion, you should only transfer money that you will be spending here to your UK bank account. Every time you make a transfer, you lose a percentage of the money in charges/fees.

You will need to wait until you are in the UK, with proof of a UK address, before you can open a UK bank account. Most UK bank accounts will come with a cash point card that will let you take money out without fees. Once you have the account, you can ask your bank in Germany to transfer the money but, if they want you to visit the branch to make the transfer, another option would be to simply write a cheque in euros and take that to your UK bank - there will be fees and clearing will take a few weeks for this.

    Transfer Euro to British Pounds

    Hi

I am living in Germany, therefore all my savings are on german bank accounts in Euro. I am moving to England in 10days, and I want to keep my savings with me (Or at least most of it).

What is the best way of transfering money from Germany to England (Possible with a credit card that allows me to withdraw without a fee, but I cant put money in the account), and more important: is it advisable to convert it to Pounds anyways? Or rather keep it Euro, to not depend on changes in currency.

Another question is, what is a good savings option for more than 5340Pounds in the UK apart from the ISA (max. 5340 p.a.)? (Good interest rates, can be fixed with no withdrawals)

    I would appreciate every help!

    Best Regards,

    Andy
