You need to swap a few letters and, basically, try to negotiate a fair settlement. Your correspondence should include copies of documents to support your figures. Hopefully this will eventually lead to a reasonable settlement but, if it doesn't, you can consider putting your claim through the courts.

Business Insurance claims is not my area.

But commonsense would suggest that you ask them to either replace the equipment or provide evidence of the reduced replacement cost. Why should you have to do the running around. They have stated something which they must believe is factual, so challenge them.

Not sure how you would go about loss of business claim. You are using 3rd party Insurers to settle the claim, so would have to write to them about this quantifying the amount. I am guessing you might have to resort to legal action if they wont entertain such a claim. They might suggest that you should have your own Insurance for such losses.

    Water damage to my business

I share my business address with another company, who are located above me in the building. Two months ago a water machine upstairs leaked(due to a burst water pipe in the machine). The company supplying the water machine has admitted liability and sent a loss assessor from there insurance company. I contacted a independent building repair contractor and sent a report of the damage/repair costs to the loss assessor. He replied by saying the replacement cost of the equipment damaged is much less than the report has stated. How do I respond to the loss assessor and also should I put in a claim for loss of business(which has been severely affected since the incident). Many thanks in advance for your views
