It'd be worth your while getting a surge protector safety plug. They're only a few pounds each on eBay.

    Frazzled computer

We recently suffered damage from a power surge during a thunder storm, it came on suddenly and the computer copped for it. Phoned my insurers, Churchill, who kept it straight forward & I was straight through to an English speaking person. Took serial number of computer & she said it would have to go off for an assessment. To cut a long story short, it came home after aprox 2 weeks, with....wait for it...a new case, mainboard, processor, memory & hard drive. I plugged it in & it wouldn't work. Again, in brief, it went back (I did inform Churchill that if it wasn't back with me within the week I wanted a replacement or funds for.) It came back within the week. You guessed it, still not working, boots up this time, which it wouldn't do last time, but dies after about a minute. Churchill have been great, it has been agreed that a cheque will be sent out Monday. They have admitted that they will probably pay the company anyway....???? WHAT???? so who are the company? Let's let them share the glory here, Direct Validation Services on the letterhead, My engineer (lucky me) was Steve Matthias. Text from DPD (the driver & I are now great mates, wishing him luck with his wife's pregnancy) claim to collecting on behalf of Evander....I do hope this post will show up if the company is googled, I did try that when the computer first came back, but couldn't find anything of interest on them. They have left me with a very old slow computer for far too long, they have not done what they were instructed to do.....but they will still get paid!! My advice....1, buy shares in this company.....2....if your insurance company tries to send your property to these cowboys, tell them what they are like, they also deal with TV'S luckily for me they decided not to "have a go" at repairing mine! As I said to Churchill (Have tor reiterate, they have been great) these people are working for us both....Would love to hear if anyone else has had dealings!
