    Congratulations :D

I am in the process of looking at new cars! Your post has renewed my love for cars! I did some reseach and managed to find a rought to work that will save me 25miles a day so i can afford a petrol now!! At the moment its beween a Civic type-r and a bmw z3. think the z3 is a bit far fetched though, service and repair costs will be nasty.

Good luck with the car, keep us posted :D

I just thought i'd let you know (if you're at all interested!) that I have just bought a beautiful british racing green 1998 MX-5 in brilliant condition with only 42,500 on the clock. Its only had one owner who was nearly in tears because she had to sell it. I pick it up tomorrow!!!! I'm so excited xxx

Too right - although you have to be sensible sometimes, these days we also have to think what we will and won't be allowed to do in years to come! Or indeed, the way things are going with road tax, what the Government will price us out of doing in the future too!

Go for the MX-5 and find a quiet open road in the sun - decision made!

    Hi

I was also in the same position as you a couple of years ago. I went for the not-so-sensible option and bought the MX5 of my dreams. It was a great decision - I have loved this car but unfortunately I am now selling it as I cannot afford the insurance!!! So good decision/bad decision - you decide. Here's the link if you'd like to buy it off me!

    Kind regards

Re: Used MX5 or newer Ford Fiesta?

i was int he same situation as you about 6 months ago. sencible money saver of expencive dream. I had a choice between a 1.4 diesel 206 03 plate or a new honda civic type-r. big price difference but would have been well worth it. Becasue of the car type the civic would have worked out more expencive for everything, servicing, mot (although it wouldnt be for 3 years), tax, insurance, petrol... literally everything.

With the long commut to work i desided to go for the nice little cheap deisel. i save £70 a month on insurnance, estimated £100 a month on petrol (75miles a day on motorway), the tax is only £50 a year and thats not taking into account maintainance costs.

Work out exactly how much it will cost extra each month, i would also consider a diesel car as they are most echonomical and new ones are just as good (if not better) that petrol.

     Hope this helps.

Used MX5 or newer Ford Fiesta?

    Hi there,

I know this is a bit of a silly post but I could do with some advice. I had set my heart (and mind!) on a Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec 03-04 plate and with about £5000 to spend it seemed like a great sensible second car. However, I happened to mention to a friend how much I was spending and that my dream car would be a Mazda MX5 1.6i, their response was buy buy buy one! I've done some research and I can pick a used MX5 for less than £5000 and still with a plate form 1999-2000.

What do I do? Should I be sensible and go for the Fiesta or should I live the dream and go for a MX5. I should mention that I have been driving nearly 5 years (age 23) and have nearly 6yrs no claims so the insurance is good for both. Currently I have a 1 hour commute to work so the car needs to be ok on fuel.

Has anyone had either cars and has any advice to offer please let me know on reliability fixing costs etc. Or if anyone has an opinion on what I should do that would be great too!!

    Please help

    Milly
