Re: To renew or not to renew?

Depends on whether taking out a new policy has any affect on the cover. If your pet has any pre existing medical issue, the new policy won't cover it. Also does your pet meet the qualifying conditions for a new policy.

Don't rush into arranging a new policy instead of renewing the old, without checking of any consequences.

My personal opinion on Pet Insurance, is that some of the policies offered by vets are more reliable when you need to claim. Because the vets practice deal with all the paperwork, it can be easier. With policies available directly with Insurers, in the event of a claim, it can be a hassle.

To renew or not to renew?

My Pet Ins policy is due for renewal and I've been quoted 67% on top of current annual premium to renew. I then called my insurer who could only offer a further 10% discount, so still about 50% on top.

I've looked at what new customers are being quoted and it would be about 14% on top of current annual premium.

I then asked - if I do not renew the policy and just let it elapse, at what point do I become a new customer and would be eligible to apply as a new customer. They reluctantly told me if I don't have a current policy with them I'd be a new customer. This obviously means there would be no incentive to renew.

So, anyone came across this before and what's the general thoughts on this practice?
