    Pre-paid cash cards

Just returned from two weeks in Florida. (June 2011). We all used pre paid $ FairFX and a $ Virgin card. Both worked very well . Accepted everywhere. Worth knowing that if you want to draw cash; in addition to the $2 card charge, the ATM's charge an additional fee of between $1.50 (Wallmart) and $ 3 (Bank of America drive in ATM!) per transaction and all have a daily limit of between $200 - £$300 maximum. You will also sometimes need photo ID. UK ID driving licence or passport is acceptable in shops.

GAS stations (Fuel) also accepted the cards in payment but this had to be completed in the shop prior to filling up. Unleaded petrol was on average £ 2.45 per GALLON great value !

FairFX gave us by far the best exchange rates, and the top ups were almost instant. Items charged to the card were also instantly deducted so we were in complete control of our spending. We used free WiFi in the villa with a netbook and Smart phones when out and about to keep tabs on our spending.

This was a great service and the exchange rates even beat the Mastercard and Visa rates.

We have kept our card accounts active and will be using them again.
