Hi Isunshine,
There will be lots more discussions on prices that for sure, with only 2 of the big 6 making their announcements.
However, as with any Gas & Electricity Company, should you find that the deal you are on, is significantly disadvantaged by your current companies price increase notification, then you have what is called "The Right to Cancel" this means that you can cancel your current contract and leave to another company, without the original contract cancellation fee being applied. Now you have to act fast, as when you receive notification, whether by post or email, you have to contact the company, and ask them to note you wish to "inact" the Right to Cancel you have then 15 working days in which your current supplier must hear from your new supplier to be within the terms of the Right to Cancel. This 15 working days, is infact 3 weeks, which is just enough time, but you must choose your new supplier and deal carefully, as you dont want to change to the new company and find they are increasing the prices on the product you have just chose, this is why the hype at the minute is to move to companies with attractive fixed rates, which are locked in at today's prices, but these are going fast, and realistically, in this ever changing market, I wouldnt personally choose one for a year, as realistically, you are only delaying what you are avoiding now, till next year...
Also look out for other deals which might be avoid price increases, clearly fixed and capped rates do, but I am with ScottishPower and their Online Energy Saver 14 tariff, has also been excluded from the price increase (this time mind you so would possibly go up when there are more hikes next year-which is another probable bet !)
