Re: Sky Broadband problems - aaarrgh!

Hi there, evening usage would always be slower due to everyone coming home from work & logging in at the same time. Residential lines are normally shared 50/1 [49 users + you sharing the same line]. That said it should still be fast enough for normal web browsing, have you contacted support so they can run some line tests?

During the first 10 days a process of "line training" is carried out, whereby your speeds will fluctuate as the line levels its best connection speed, I a suspicious of this but they all do it.

    Things to try:

Plug the network cable in & disable WIFI, does this improve speeds, the cable came with your Sky router. maybe a yellow one?
Ensure your router is plugged into the primary BT socket, this should be the one closest to your front door. In your Sky router box you would have had 2 ADSL filters, just exchange to see if it helps?
Hard reboot the router, take power out for 20 minutes then power back up.
Visit here and perform a speedtest, post results back both download & upload.

    Cheers

    Gary

    Sky Broadband problems - aaarrgh!

I recently swapped to sky from BT for my phone & broadband service and have regretted this ever since. My broadband works OK during the day, but in the evening it goes very slow or I loose connection completely. My PC says i'm connected and the signal strength is excellent but the service is just gone. I'm a total technophobe and have no idea how to change channels or filters as suggested in some forums, I guess I need to start learning fast about such things if i'm not going to go nuts with frustration. I have agreed to a 12 month contract with sky, but can they really hold me to this if their service is so crappy. I never had any problems with my BT service so how can one provider be fine and another so awful, surely they use all the same equipment and cabling??

Any helpful comments or suggestions gladly received.
