    Hi Jalexa.

i/we wondered that about male mechanic talking to a woman???understand at time car was illegal.but it was almost like them doing a mini MOT without me knowing if you see what i mean.if i knew before hand the job was going to be £279.00 i may have been a bit more prepared for it..but thought car was going in for BC enabled and paying just the £49.06..

...i am still trying to find out is it standard practice for the car to have a vehicle check by vauxhall...

Probably yes, at least in relation to obvious safety related issues. But even if not "standard" your argument is a losing argument.

The *real* issue is the "she was told it had to be done that day because the car was illegal to drive anyway" remark. Even it was "illegal" to drive that is not the dealer's job to police. Of course we're talking car dealer here and probably a male mechanic talking down to a woman.

I would find out what the nearest "fast fit" type of dealer would have charged for similar work (tracking and new tyres) and focus on the (alleged) misinformation. I say "alleged" because of course the dealer will deny saying *exactly* what is reported.

If the tracking is not set up correctly, the tyres will actually scrub as you drive, and this will result in bald areas. Obviously this is a danger to you - and other road users. Why didn't you notice this yourself? Don't you check your vehicle regularly?

Seems to me that Vauxhall have done us all a favour by pointing out to you that your vehicle is illegal, and therefore dangerous, and not just to you!

You can of course ask them for the tyres, so you can get them checked independently by, for instance, the AA or RAC. Changing the tyres and setting the tracking is an hours labour at most. Is the car not still under warranty?

vauxhall Main dealer Vehicle Health Check?

    Hi All

Does anyone know that if you take your car as in my case to a vauxhall main dealer for a on board computer to be enabled..for vauxhall to do a vehicle health check without us asking for it...as on wed of this week it was all pre arranged for the on board computer to be done for a total of £49.06p and would take roughly 1hr to be done which was fine.my wife took the car in by herself as i was on afternoons..for the BC to be enabled it was booked in for a while you wait appointment.which as i said before was planned for 1hr.after this time the service advisor.came to her.and said the job was done.BUT on doing the vehicle health check they had found the car needed 2 new front tyres, and the tracking to be done, she was told it had to be done that day because the car was illegal to drive anyway.as 1 part of 1 tyre was bald on the inside tread.she was given 2 prices for the tyres.£150 & £180 and was advised that as we do a reasonable amount of driving incuding motorway.(but we dont do no more then 11000 miles a year) to go for the dearer option for safety reasons.of which she did. i .e firestone tyres..so overall. a job that was meant to cost me £49.09p. came to £279.83p of which £83.01p was labour....what is your reply to this am i being ripped off or what.and what do you believe i should be doing about this.take it to vauxhall head office or what???will watch for your replies. Thanks John.
