Well it's a start to realise that, though you also need to find time to scrutinise each quarterly bill or statement.

Time is money (as they say). Only you can decide whether it is worth finding the time.

i am with EDF as well now for the last 2 years. i pay £40 per month and now the bill came in asking me to pay from 1st december to lets say end of february another £360????????????? annual bill reaching £900. i do not understand for what. plus they want my monthly direct debit to be increased to £110 per month. i am renting a one bedroom flat and we are two of us. both working till 6pm. we would heat for couple hours (gas central heating - 4 radiators) and would switch off during the night as we dont like the heat and the noise. looks like every year my gas bill goes up by £120. last year was the same... £40 monthly bills and in february they asked me to pay £240. this year its already £360. when we moved in the meter itself was replaced. the building we live in used to be once one building but now devided into flats (used ot be a hotel some 200years ago.) i am thinking maybe i am paying for other flats as well? otherwise i have no idea where the gas is lost. i am planning to complain about it today as i am not willing to pay this money knowing that we save gas and do not heat so much. my friends has one bedroom flat next to us and pays £38 per month plus she is overpaying every month. she is heating nearly all the time as has a small child. her flat is really hot most of the time comparing to ours.

any ideas or anyone faced the same problem? what did you do about it? can i not simply pay the additional bill? i know i need to monitor the meter..i would if had time for that.. guess i need to find some time then at least for a month.
