You can also check out the actual value of the car you are intending to buy at WhatCar.com or in the Parkers guide etc to make sure no-one is over charging you. Also if you are selling or trading in a car then it can be beneficial in this connection too to stop a dealer or buyer from undervaluing your car.

Re: Buying a second hand car

I cannot recommend where as I don't reside near the area in question. Whatever you do though, if you buy from a used dealer and particularly.... if you buy through a private sale, do certainly have a used vehicle history check performed. You can have this done for under a £fiver using the link below. This provides the past vehicle history that you need for your protection and offers an indemnity guarantee up to 5k in the unlikely event their information should later turn out to be incorrect.

Also; besides taking the car for a test drive to ensure you're happy, have an independent used vehicle inspection conducted by the AA or the RAC, this will provide an insight as to the mechanical condition and highlight any defects as well as providing information as to whether the car is worth the asking price.....before you agree to buy.

    Buying a second hand car

I need to buy myself a second hand car. I will be spending about £2,500. Can anybody give me any tips to make sure I don't get ripped off. I want to make sure the car I buy has no oustanding finance, is not a cut and shut etc. Also recommendations on where to look to buy a car would be helpfull. I am in liverpool/merseyside.
