I must have just dropped lucky with my timing, Dave.. although I really did want to cancel it, as I wasn't watching it nearly as much as normal.

It's typical when you want to cancel they try their best to keep you, but when you just need to obtain a crafty reduction ....they simply agree to one's request......just typical.!

Just be prepared for no deal to be offered - it seems to depend on who/when you actually speak to at Sky!!

I tried it last month as I'm out of contract but the retentions guy wasn't prepared to offer me anything at all.I suspect that they have churn targets - once these are met for the period (week, month??) then they seem happy to accept your cancellation.

Sky TV will also reduce their costs too roughly by a half, if you are out of contract ....just phone Sky customer services and tell them you wish to end the service, as you no longer find the monthly subscriptions value for money and could do without them.

I was paying £19 / month they asked me if I would be happy to stay for a further Six months at the reduced price of only £10. I asked "what is the catch" .?... they explained, "none, no tricks.... no need for a contract renewal and if you wish to leave within or after this concession period, you are as free to leave as you are at present."

So at least i've had the benefit of a nearly half price service for the last few months. When Six months is up, I will make a final decision whether to stay or go.

Got my monthly charge dropped from £18 to £12.50 by asking to leave

I had an offer from BT broadband, which was 16.50 a month for similar service to my virgin media adsl service at £18 so decided to switch purely to save money, I have been happy with virgin for ages. When I got put through and explained I wanted to leave they offered to drop my charges to £12.50 a month - so anyone else with them, might be worth a try, it's cheaper than their advertised charges for new customers of £12.75 even!
