    Re: Travel Insurance

A travel insurance policy covers you from the moment you depart for your tour till completion of your journey. It provides protection from any financial problem or other hassles you may encounter during your trip. A basic travel insurance policy provides coverage from medical emergency, accidents, trip cancellation and delay, lost or theft baggage, evacuation.

Yes you have posted a valuable lesson for people to make sure they take the time to read what a Travel Insurance covers before they buy a policy.

To be fair to AXA, most policies will limit what can be claimed for delay. You will see many similar posts to online forum about other companies. But AXA do appear to be gaining a reputation for wriggling out of claims, according to posts to many of the review sites.

    Travel Insurance

The small print - the small print - beware the small print.

I have an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy with AXA which 'covers???' myself and other family members travelling with me world wide.

This posting is to warn prospective customers to be extra vigilant when reading the maim body of AXA's policy. Many of the 'so-called' covered elements, are almost impossible to claim recompense for, as the small print will negate many claims.

For instance - My wife and I were booked to fly to the USA on 1st December last and travelled to Gatwick airport on time. The flight was delayed over 80 hours. AXA state in the main body policy document that they will pay for delayed departures at the rate of £20 for the first 12 hours and the same amount per 12 full hour delay.

The small print clause exclusions then showed that
    1. There would be a £40.00 excess PER PERSON...NOT per policyholder!
    2. The limit of compensation would be £100.00 only.

Therefore, my claim would be almost worthless and had any of my children been travelling with us, then to claim, would have meant that I would actually be worse off and owe AXA money. What a con! 80 hours delay and not one penny recompense.

May I also warn clients who need to make a claim for lost or damaged baggage. AXA will insist that the owner MUST have retained receipts for every item with the case/cases, whether USED (ie clothes) or otherwise. If not (and the total insured is supposed to be the usual £1500) all items will then be valued by AXA at 20%, making the actual payout (assuming the items lost or damaged were worth £1500) a mere £200.

    Be careful folks.
