    COMPENSATION - Marine Aquarium

I live in a house that was built 5 years ago, according to Transco, Scottish Power made a mess of laying the electrical cables for the new estate. This mess caused the electrical cables in the street to short out and also burst the gas main.

Due to this both my gas and electricity was cut off for 24 hours. I have a marine aquarium that requires specialist heating and lighting requirements. Due to the amount of time being cut off everything in my aquarium died. Thsi caused me enough distress. However, I require to make a claim. Do I make that on my own house insurance or can I claim directly against Scottish Power. Transco engineer said they would be sending a bill to Scottish Power for the damage to their pipe and cost of fixing including labour.

If I had to replace all my items in my aquarium from the start it would cost me well over £500. I cannot prove this other than to point them to a aquarium specialist who could confirm my costs. This aquarium took me over a year just to get all the parameters right and has been wiped out in 24 hours, not happy..!!
