Re: cancelling a car and getting deposit back

Assuming that there was nothing contradicting this on the form that you signed, the agreement was that, if you weren't happy with the repairs, you could get your deposit back so the garage isn't obliged to refund your deposit until they've had a chance to do the repairs and show them to you.

You can contact them now and see what they say or you can wait until they've done the repairs. If they get the impression that you are messing them around, they may refuse to refund the deposit which would mean that you might have to resort to legal action. In general, even the most reasonable garage will consider being awkward over something like this if they feel that the customer is being awkward.

You can certainly walk away from the deal (it's best to let the garage know) but my opinion is that you should consider the deposit as lost and, if you can manage to get it back, that would be a bonus.

cancelling a car and getting deposit back

hi i put a deposit of 100.00 down for car. At the time of viewing the car it hadnt been through the workshop, was filthy with both wing mirrors missing. Stupidly i agreed to pay a deposit and take the car, only if they managed to clean it up and fix the wing mirrors and I got the salesman to agree that If I wasnt happy with the result I would get my deposit back. He verbally agreed to this. I wasnt taking this on finance and was paying this cash. I signed a vehicle order form.

After some serious thought I no longer want the car due to the initial state of the car. Can I now walk away from this deal and get my deposit back? I seriously hope I can as I have seen another car which is so much better than this one.

I was thinking that the reason that I dont want to go ahead would be because it is not at the standard I would expect and because the car was so filthy I could not see the scratches etc on the car.

    Many thanks
