    Re: Kindle ebook readers

    Hi Twee,

It has rudimentary internet access, so I can do a few limited things, such as browse the Amazon Kindle store for new books - an iPad it ain't.

Plus, it can read PDFs, my other half puts work stuff onto it to browse or refer to.

It's very intuitive to use and light enough to hold in one hand (which is great if you combine cooking and reading like I do). Apparently you can even get protective slips so that you can safely read it in the bath. It is also charming - it finds images from the books you have stored and uses them as a sort of screensaver when you're not using it (it doesn't power down - it simply works by creating fresh pages using electronic ink, which is very clever).

Because it creates temporary but actual pages rather than show you a screen, it's also very easy to read for long periods.

PLUS, you can pose with it on the train because no one knows you're actually reading Harry Potter :)

    Cheers,

    Felicity

Felicity, Is yours an "internet enabled" one ?

    ie a Model 2 ?

If so - I understand that they come fitted with a "SIM CARD" that allows free internet access for life - plus WIFI - can't be bad for £140 ?

    Re: Kindle ebook readers

    Hi Twee,

At the risk of sounding biased, I love my Kindle. Thanks to something called the Guttenberg Project (not sure if that's exactly right, will check with other half later) I can download all out-of-copyright classics for free, so the thing is stuffed with more literature than I am likely to read in a lifetime.

We have loaded pdfs onto it, I think (again, will need to check with other half tonight, it's his PDF files I think I have seen).

In terms of using it, it isn't as nice as a lovely hardback but it is light, easy to navigate and somehow appealing in a different way.

    Hope that helps,

    Felicity

    Kindle ebook readers

I want to buy my wife an ebook reader for her birthday and see thar Amazon have Kindles, with free 3G for £150 - which appears not to be too bad - has anyone got a Kindle - how would you rate it ?

Plus - will it "read" any format of ebook including freebies (from plain text, pdf to word or any others) ?
