Re: Vodafone mobile broadband renewal - too good to be true?

My gripe with Vodafone is there appalling customer service - I had been with them as a "corporate" customer for 12 years and when I went my seperate way from my employer last year - I thought "better the devil you know" and emailed Vodafone to see what they could offer me to keep my custom - guess what ?

    No response - absolutely nothing

So I repeated the process twice more - still nothing

I gave my custom to T-mobile eventually

Good luck with that. They offered it to me when I said that I was happy with the service but I was definitely leaving to try a few other options.

My account is looking promising. The August direct debit went through for £8.70 but, when I log in to "my account" at vodafone.co.uk, it says that the August direct debit is £150 and the plan that I'm on costs £15 per month. I'll keep things monitored. I'd be a lot more relaxed about things if the figures agreed.

Hi, I have been with Vodafone for many years now, always been satisfied with the service and any problems have always been resolved very quickly and in my favour. (bit off topic I know) I have been using their mobile broadband for 2 years now and I have managed to get them to keep extending a 12 month contract in which I have only been paying £10pm, I will now endevour to get it down to your £7.50 when it is due for renewal next month.

    Jalexa:

could be a 2 year tie-in on the basis the the "previous service" was a 2 year deal?!?

I would be very surprised if I didn't need to swap a few messages around this time next year but there's been no recent mention of 2 years and I did ask if it was "one of these deal where the price goes up after 3 months". The deal was stated as "£15 per month less 50% discount per month for 12 months" and the last email said "The discount is applicable from 13th July 2010 and will expire on 27th July 2011" (yes, I know that's 12½ months). I'm expecting that, if I do nothing, I'll go back to £15 per month on a 30 day notice contract next year which I can live with - I'll just need to remember the expiry date and cancel in time. I'd be willing to be tied in for 2 years at £7.50 but they wont be tieing me in for a second year at £15. It only takes a couple of clicks to cancel the direct debit.

I'd be happy for now just to know that I'm not going to have pay more than £7.50 (or even £8.70) per month for the next year without more messing about.

The daft thing is that, before the first phone call, I'd decided to try the sim cards available on eBay which come with 3Gb credit but I thought that it'd be too much messing about using a new sim card each month. I thought that the £7.50 Vodafone deal would be a little more expensive but less fuss!

... I'm tied in until July next year (at least that's my understanding of the deal?!?..

Perhaps I'm being a little mischievous but "what if we offered you the same service at half the price for 12 months" could be a 2 year tie-in on the basis the the "previous service" was a 2 year deal?!?

Re: Vodafone mobile broadband renewal - too good to be true?

No typo but I've had an email back today to say that they're crediting my account with £140-odd pounds and I will be billed £8.70 this month and £7.50 for future months. There's still a tiny bit of double charging with the £8.70 charge, but I'd be satisfied enough not to make a fuss until the next mistake if it worked out like that. Unfortunately though, the online account details are still promising me a £150 direct debit near the end of this month and £15 per month thereafter. I'll keep checking and I'll be ready to bounce the direct debit if things look like going wrong.

I usually use around 2GB per month but the service is for my PCs and the dongle is my only internet connection. I'm tied in until July next year (at least that's my understanding of the deal?!?)

Re: Vodafone mobile broadband renewal - too good to be true?

Do you mean £150 for your first month (cancelled contract) or was this a typo - since if they change you £150 for a cancelled contract - you need to add this to your monthly bill (averaged out over 2 years) is another £6.25 per month !!

I pay Tmobile £15 for "unlimited" Mobile internet, unlimited Txt's and up to 500 minutes of anytime/any place calls - which is not too bad either..... I am on a monthly contract too (so no contract tie in...)

Just how do you manage to use up 3Gb though ?

    I don't even manage 500Mb with mine !!!

Vodafone mobile broadband renewal - too good to be true?

I signed up for 2 years with Vodafone mobile broadband in July 2008. Shortly before the end of the two years, I wrote to say that I had been happy with the service but I wished to stop using Vodafone at the end of the period. I then received a phone call and I confirmed my wishes then ... "but what if we offered you the same service at half the price for 12 months". This seemed a good offer (£7.50 per month for 3GB) so I accepted and the details were confirmed in an email. I think it's too good to be true though.

Has anyone managed to get going with a similar offer?

At the end of the 2 years, my service ceased but I phone up and got it reconnected. I spent ½ hour on the phone and I was transferred between a few people supposedly to get the contract set up with the "right" details.

Currently, Vodafone are planning to collect £150 by direct debit this month (for a "cancelled contract") and then £15 per month in subsequent months. I've just emailed them to ask for their bank details to set up a £7.50 monthly payment and to say that I'm planning to cancel the direct debit because of too many errors.

I will update but I'm not confident about getting the service at £7.50 per month this way.
