Ask the XH to cancel your screen name. He is the account holder so there would be no problem doing that. Or if your name is still on the account as a contact you can call (in the evening its cheaper). Or using the Keywords on AOL it should allow you to cancel it yourself.

Tell me about it - used to be a 'Mod' for AOL and then they changed everything and got the US Army taking over - not literally, but it felt like it!

They took perfectly good Volunteers off the shop floor, put them back on the shelf and started PAYING yanks a wage to do it!

Oh, I do.  only very rarely, but just to keep you all guessing, it does occasionally happen!!

Sometimes, it just isn't worth it!  But, my word, thier ridiculous emails took some beating, I have to say!

You've got a real AOL doozie here and one that I have come up with on a few occassions.

You must write to AOL (UK) at AOL (UK) LIMITED 68 HAMMERSMITH ROAD, LONDON, W14 8YW with your former screen name and details of the issue. Technically AOL is in breach of the DPA but their terms and conditions are so convoluted that I am sure their legal people must use a corkscrew to put their socks on.

AOL is possibly only second worst ISP to Pipex. They are well known in banking circles as one of the most difficult companies to work with and I have an ever-increasing list of clients who have been really screwed up by AOL.

IF yo get a reply from AOL you'll be doing well, but once you have written, you can use CISAS to register a formal complaint against them that they are legall bound to address.

My XH tried to set himself up on broadband and decided to use his old AOL member name.  That reactivated the other names attached to that account, one of which was my webmail.

Every time I tried to contact AOL, I got garbage back.  I kid you not.  Prefilled, standard form email, in a really kooky format, telling me again and again to call the very expensive helpline, even when I explained that I cannot afford to do so. 

I gave up in the end but I was appalled.  I still get emails about what is now his account; surely that's a DPA breach? 

I switched from AOl to Orange as they offered me free BB with my phone.  I'd had no complaints about AOL prior to that, but after this fiasco, I wouldn't go near them again.
