    manchester85:

Given that there has been a meter change and the factor of the error I speculate the reason for the discrepancy is the different conversion factor between imperial and metric meters.

I haven't looked at the detail of the post to see whether British Gas are wrong or not, but if you search this Forum, BBC Watchdog and Google, you will find plenty about the issue.

Re: Can someone please help my British gas bill is totally wrong.

I cant see where they have pulled the number from at all, In comp to other bills at higher rates last year for example same usage. This is taking the mick.

I went onto bg website after recieving an email yesterday saying meter reading due. The bill was £0 for both as i payed them obviously nearly 3 months ago. I added the readings after working out what i think it could be (as i always do, softens the blow)

Went to work got home to a "thanks for your reading email", went to check and its that price. Strangely enough i cant view my old bills online and seeing as they stoped paper billing me i cant get prev records up. Theres no record of my prev meter readings what so ever for the gas and i just keep getting "you cannot view this" on view last bill as i want to see the total usage of that. My last bill wasnt even near this.

My new meter started at 0 of course and the meter readin is 171 since ive had it threw this quater. Now it wont let me view old meter readings. Never the less it cant be the meter reading as the maths dont suport the price. Even if i put the rate to a stupid amount lets say 0.20p for the 670kw it wouldnt total this amount with the remainder at the highest low tier rate added.

Im certain the meter guy didnt do something right but that keeps bringing me back to the fact their own and my own meter reading and consumption total are showing the charges cannot equal what they have said.

Im really annoyed i was hoping this could be lets say their estimate and my meter reading will take it back to round about the amount ive got and hopefully they havent yet calculated it as my gas bill is due to be sent this week (hense the emails for meter readings). In the past ive had est for loads and then as soon as i update the meter reading even though ive recieved a bill online for more, they go down by nearly 60%.

This time though it was 0 as no est had yet been put on so this total is defo with my meter reading.

Ive calculated but my account now says "account upto date" and wont let me submit a meter reading plus says reading on the page 00171. So it is upto date.

Can someone please help my British gas bill is totally wrong.

    Hi,

Today i updated my meter readings as requested and was given my energy cons total for my quater, on each bill. Im on websaver 4 for both lec and gas.

I was given the rates for both and which tier etc. My electric bill after doing the maths etc is basically what i worked out add a few pounds for extra 0.0001ps here and there.

My gas how ever is threw the roof with the british gas online billing yet the calculations ive done say completely diff. 1stly I know for a fact that the amount they have given i havent used. I didnt even use that amount during the last quater when we had one of the coldest winters on record! I only use a gas cooker and seeing as im out from 9am -8pm everyday at work as is my partner, there is defo no one cooking. My heating has been set to off for several weeks and even when it was on prior it was only ever on for half an hour when getting home from work before bed. People actually complain because i dont have the heating on when they come round!

Now today i was given these rates for the units ive used.

    Used 1909

    1st 670kw at 6.133p remaining at 2.866p

    1909-670 = 1239

    That means 670x0.06133 = 41.0911 1239 x 0.02866 = 35.50974

    Added together that = 76.60084

Add 5% as told to do so for vat. 5% being 3.830042. Adding together and coming up with 80.430882

So my bill should be there about £80.43

Now Ive gone back over other quater meter readings done the maths and them bills all work out round the same as what i was actually chagred.

This bill however on british gas website isnt showing the amount above its showing £ 217.67

Thats nearly 3 times as much!!! Even if i work it out on their other rate terifs it doesnt come to that amount! There isnt a chance in hell ive used that amount and considering the readings say differently i need to know how about disputing this and getting it sorted, Just a quick note as well my winter bill nov - january wasnt this amount also on the 16th of march nearly 2 months ago i had a new meter installed. British gas said it needed upgrading not my choice. But then again i dont think that could be anything to do with it as the 1909 is the total units ive used which they show on record so they cant argue around the maths.

If someone could help me with this it would be great!!!! Thanks
