    Re: STINGEY ICELAND

Hi Heartofgold and Fiamold, and hi to Landshark, hope your enjoying your holiday. Thank you all for your replies. I do agree with Fiamold, all though I can also see Heartofgolds point, you are really saying that I should approach the Manager in a tactful way, I have already done this previously, and the staff knew I was a regular customer, as I had spent a lot of money in this shop and allowed me more bags, then out of the blue they started penny pinching, again. This meaness with the bags has always been there policy in this particular shop. Enouth is enough and yes I will tell everyone I know, how they are quibbing about a plastic bag, they rang my shopping up, I paid them and they moaned about the bags, so I told them to keep the shopping and demanded my money back. I am not being treated in this way, by any shop. Customer service is getting poorer, I have worked in the retail trade and I would never treat anyone in this way, even if I did not like them, they paid my wages. Good customer service, is recognized, by customers so its obvious they will keep going back to these shops, stroppy employers and rude ones should be sacked, but unfortuantly, the management tend to keep them employed in there shops, what is this, care in the community, the worse you are as a shop assistant, the more your than likely to get a promotion, by your manager, are they been intimaidated by there employees also who know its just unbelievable.

Landshark the self confessed addict who finds time to run a business? if so I take it you run your business on the basis of Fortnum & Mason service at Iceland prices.

As to fiamold. Where is the mold?

They say when you are in a hole stop digging. I'll fly to Australia and see you there.

What does he mean Landshark? Well I'll stand over here and you won't fiamold.

The last time I ever went anywhere near this bunch of penny-pinchers was when they were "Beejams".

I am confused how Iceland can inadvertently win by having a regular customer telling all who will listen that Iceland are useless? Isnt this going to cost them more than the price of a few plastic bags?

As to what honey and lemon is code for - it is exactly what it says on the tin, as it is my drink of choice during the day (saves me from drinking all the caffiene I would be drinking otherwise).

    Re: STINGEY ICELAND

Even if you don't want to use Iceland anymore christy don't cut off your nose to spite your face. That way Iceland's inadvertently won without even knowing and you go away bearing a grudge which will fester with you because every time it seems appropriate you'll say to friend or family DON'T USE ICELAND! Sort out it to your satisfaction and then you have peaceof mind.

Go into Iceland ask to see the duty (which immediately shows an understanding - the manager can't be there all the time). If the assistant asks what its about don't tell her and if he's busy ask when would be a good time.

When you see her/him say what was in your heart admittedly cleverly put - it made me feel small, embarrassed and the reason i was given was because the manager said so etc. which was dismissive especially for a REGULAR CUSTOMER. Do it pleasantly and reasonably and you'll get a decent response.

You go away happy and maybe even with a positive outlook on Iceland and even catch yourself being positive about Iceland to friends as a result of seing the duty manager.

    Hi heartofgold and Fiamold,
Thank you for your replies, I will not shop in Iceland again, and I believe they should rearrange there Policy, of keeping there bags back from there customers, because this is a sure way of loosing them.

It could be that the managers see it as a benefit - maybe they have had a large amount of returns due to items defrosting before they can be got home, and have therefore issued instruction as to how it should be packed for maximum benefit.

Probably not, but it could be a reason.

    Re: STINGEY ICELAND

I had it in my local supermaket. It was only temporary. What happened was they had suddenly got a few customers who bought a few items and wanted to put almost one item per carrier bag and very slowly at that. Rather than upset yourself it's always worth asking a member of staff if there is a reason if something looks odd. To me the managers telling the staff is not an acceptable reason.

    STINGEY ICELAND

Hi everyone, Iceland shops have been taken over by a new company, nothing new in this, its happening all the time, what I am not happy with is how the pound prices have gone upto two pounds with lots of the products. And the worst is the staff hanging onto to the plastic bags when I want to wrap my own shopping. I dont see the problem here, I am not going to beg them for a shopping bag, I spend enough money in this shop its disgusting, has anyone else experienced this. I can help myself in Tescos and Sainsburys for plastic carriers, its obvious the price we we pay for the food in Iceland more than covers a carrier bag. It may seem trivial, but everytime I go in this shop I have to be embarressed by there staff who keep telling me they have been told to do this from there managers above, I just dont buy this. I am now shopping elsewhere, I have no option.
