Re: How long you have stayed at this address? - Question

    kaku:

I am not sure that what are the implications of lying on the "How long you have stayed at this address?" question? Can they keep full or part of my savings if they find out that the information I gave was incorrect?

Let me answer the question in a different way. With an online application process how long the applicant has spent at an address is not how long the applicant has spent at the address but how long the Credit Reference Agency the bank uses for their "money laundering" ID verification says the applicant has spent at the address.

The "money laundering" ID verification is a legal requirement on the bank and I'm not going to say anything to encourage you to lie.

Either the application will be successful on the information you provide or it will be unsuccessful. I cannot anticipate the outcome.

Neither can I anticipate what would happen if your "lies" went into the "possible money laundering fraud" intray at the bank.

Re: How long you have stayed at this address? - Question

    Hi

They only want the address information for any credit checks that they conduct.

You are not lying, the information is just not 100% accurate. It is only 6 months, so could be seen as just an innocent mistake.

It is your money, so they cannot apply any sanctions, due to the inaccuracy of time at an address.

If you are that worried about it, why don't you phone them.

Its a good question and you are up against a p*ss poor piece of systems coding. Up to you how you deal with it but for the sake of 6 months you could either open a sole account for six months or possibly try elsewhere. Not sure whether Tesco's coding is any better but the interest rate is *nearly* the same and there is unlimited access (as well as Faster Payments both ways), something which is beyond Sainsbury's and I think their HBOS host systems.

Thanks for your answer. However, I am not sure that what are the implications of lying on the "How long you have stayed at this address?" question?

Can they keep full or part of my savings if they find out that the information I gave was incorrect?

How long you have stayed at this address? - Question

Hi Folks, after much contemplation, I have finally decided to go ahead and open a Sainsbury's bank 3.20% online savings account. I have decided to open a joint account with my wife so that she will have access to the money if something happens to me (just in case). However the savings I will be putting in this account are from my own earnings, but I trust my wife so I am giving it a go ahead.

I have the past 3 years of address history for my self (split across two addresses), so my "personal information" page in the online account application gets submitted without any problems, however my wife has been in the UK for only around 2.5 years and before that she had an overseas address. For some reason, Sainsburys online application does not accept overseas address.

    What do I do now?

Do I just lie and says that me and my wife both are living at the present address for "3 years and 0 months", which will let me complete the joint application without an problems?

What are the implications of lying on the "How long you have stayed at this address?" question. I understand this is not a credit/loan application, but I think they still do some checks before opening the account. I have opened some credit card and bank accounts with my correct address history information which I think will be on my credit file now. My wife opened a basic bank account as it was opened using her short address history in the UK and the previous overseas address.

Or, do I go ahead and open a single account only, which is NOt what I originally planned for the reason stated above.

I can't decide and time is running out. I don't want to be on the wrong side of the law however.
