You're very possibly right...most annoying this of all really, is that there's nothing we can do about it.

Experian have even said that Scan didn't actually use Experian for the check - they just denied me straight off the bat.

How do these people earn money by not giving any credit?

    Horribly confused and annoyed.

Re: Experian Credit Score 891 - V12 Finance turn me down!

This is very strange, because I’ve only just finished sending a letter of complaint to Scan about an identical case.

In my situation, the amount of the purchase was £2800. After paying Experian for a credit report, I find my rating is 999/1000 – you can’t really get better.

Neither Scan nor V12 (Clode Retail Finance) will discuss this, of course.

However, I have a theory. Google “Clode Retail Finance” and you will see numerous complaints, some from these forums, relating to arbitrary charges raised by Clode Retail Finance against “good” customers – those who pay the principal off in full before interest charges kick in.

My suspicion is that this is not the sort of customer that Clode Retail Finance want: they want customers who do *not* pay off the full amount – that’s where the profit lies for them.

If this is the case – that V12/Clode Retail Finance are discriminating against people with good credit records – then I’d like to know whether this is legal.

Certainly, it’s put me off buying anything from Scan – I don’t like the company they keep.

    Hipster:

I checked my report, and no, there was no search done by V12,

In that case they didn't search your credit file. Either you didn't meet the eligibility criterion stated in the Scan FAQ and you were declined pre-search or there was a screw-up in the searching of a form suggested in my previous post.

    It was from Scan.

I checked my report, and no, there was no search done by V12, even though they said in the refusal email, that they use Experian.

    At a loss...

Why did I get turned down?

No idea. Only V12 know the reason. Was this for a retail purchase?

I've only time I've heard of V12 it was to do with financing a personalised number plate - if this is the case, Hipster, it may be that there's some issue with your car / getting a new plate put on it rather than with your actual credit rating....

First of all every lender calculates their own "score" using the application data and data obtained from the credit search. However given the Experian "score" and the small amount of the credit I would suspect affordability is not the issue other than you requested quite a small sum which most people would have put on a card.

This is more likely to be down to something not quite right either with the address format or electoral roll address format recorded on your Experian file compared with the address format used on the application, or even a typo with your personal details such as date of birth when the store put the application through.

Would be useful to obtain your Experian Credit Report not your "score" (which IMHO is a waste of time and money), and verify that a credit search was actually done.

Experian Credit Score 891 - V12 Finance turn me down!

I tried recently to obtain credit from V12 finance for a measly £300, only to be turned down flat. They, as usual, don't tell you why, but mention you should obtain your credit score from Experian, which I did. 891! A 'great' score.

Why did I get turned down? I've never been turned down for anything in my life...is the recession that bad??

    Annnoyed.
